Claims
- 1. A process for converting a hydrocarbon charge under hydrocarbon conversion conditions by passing said hydrocarbon charge over crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite particles having an aluminum-free outer shell of SiO.sub.2, said outer shell having the same crystal structure as said zeolite.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said zeolite has a constraint index of from 1 to 12.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the said zeolite has the crystal structure of ZSM-5, ZSM-11, ZSM-12 or ZSM-35.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein the zeolite has the crystal structure of ZSM-5.
- 5. The process of claim 3 wherein the zeolite has the crystal structure of ZSM-11.
- 6. The process of claim 3 wherein the zeolite has the crystal structure of ZSM-12.
- 7. The process of claim 3 wherein the zeolite has the crystal structure of ZSM-35.
- 8. A process for converting a hydrocarbon charge under hydrocarbon conversion conditions by passing said hydrocarbon charge over a composition comprising crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite particles having an aluminum-free outer shell of SiO.sub.2, said zeolite being made by a two stage method comprising:
- (1) initiating crystallization in a crystallization medium to produce the zeolite and
- (2) altering the crystallization medium to substantially eliminate the aluminum therein
- said outer shell of SiO.sub.2 having the same crystal structure as said zeolite.
- 9. The process of claim 8 wherein the reaction mixture comprises sources of organic cation, silica, alumina and sodium oxide.
- 10. The process of claim 9 wherein one source of sodium oxide is sodium hydroxide.
- 11. The process of claim 9 wherein in step (2) the organic ion to SiO.sub.2 ratio is reduced from that in step (1).
- 12. The process of claim 10 wherein in step (2) the hydroxide is increased from that in step (1).
- 13. The process of claim 8 wherein the zeolite has a constraint index of from 1 to 12.
- 14. The process of claim 8 wherein the zeolite is selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5, ZSM-11, ZSM-12 ZSM-21 and ZSM-35.
- 15. The process of claim 8 wherein the reaction mixture to produce the SiO.sub.2 outer shell, exclusive of added solid crystals, has the following composition, in terms of mole ratios of oxides:
- R/siO.sub.2 =0.01-0.10
- SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 =300-5000
- H.sub.2 o/oh.sub.-= 20-500
- oh-/siO.sub.2 =0.05-1.0
- M.sub.2 o/siO.sub.2 =0.1-2
- wherein R is an organic ion and M is a mixture of alkali metal and organic cations.
- 16. The process of claim 15 wherein ZSM-5 is coated with SiO.sub.2 and wherein the reaction mixture to yield the coat of SiO.sub.2, exclusive of added ZSM-5, has oxide ratios as follows:
- R/siO.sub.2 =0.02
- SiO.sub.2/Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 =>1000
- H.sub.2 o/oh.sup.- =150
- oh.sup.- /siO.sub.2 =0.30
- M.sub.2 o/siO.sub.2 =0.28
- wherein M is a mixture of alkali metal and tetrapropylammonium cations and R is tetrapropylammonium.
