Claims
- 1. A compound having the formula (Va) or (Vb): ##STR53## wherein R is hydrogen or an acyl group of the formula --(C.dbd.O)--Y;
- Y is an organic substituent selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkylene, haloalkyl, aryl, haloaryl and arylalkylene;
- R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl and alkynyl;
- R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl and cyano.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 having the formula (Va).
- 3. The compound of claim 1 having the formula (Vb).
- 4. The compound of claim 2 wherein:
- R is hydrogen or an acyl group of the formula --(C.dbd.O)--Y;
- Y is selected from the group consisting of: lower alkyl; cycloalkyl; phenyl optionally substituted with 1 or 2 lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy and/or nitro substituents; and
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkynyl.
- 5. The compound of claim 4 wherein:
- R is --(C.dbd.O)--Y;
- Y is selected from the group consisting of methyl, cyclobutyl, and 3,5-dinitrophenyl;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or --C.dbd.CH; and
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, methyl or cyano.
- 6. The compound of claim 3 wherein:
- R is hydrogen or an acyl group of the formula --(C.dbd.O)--Y;
- Y is selected from the group consisting of: lower alkyl; cycloalkyl; phenyl optionally substituted with 1 or 2 lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy and/or nitro substituents; and
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkynyl.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein:
- R is --(C.dbd.O)--Y;
- Y is selected from the group consisting of methyl, cyclobutyl, and 3,5-dinitrophenyl;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or --C.tbd.CH; and
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, methyl or cyano.
- 8. A pharmaceutical composition useful for treating an endocrine disorder, comprising an effective amount of the compound of claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
