Claims
- 1. Cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin produced from hemoglobin derived from human blood, the cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin having less than 0.5% of unmodified tetrameric hemoglobin.
- 2. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin has a normal oxygen carrying capacity of about 9.7 vol% to about 25 vol%.
- 3. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein said hemoglobin is substantially free of vasoconstrictive activity.
- 4. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin is substantially free from pathogens, viral antigens and microbial antigens.
- 5. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin produces no appreciable decrease in urine production.
- 6. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin produces no appreciable decrease in glomerular filtration rate.
- 7. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin produces no appreciable extravasation into the peritoneal cavity.
- 8. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin produces no appreciable change in the color of urine produced.
- 9. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin is characterized by having an average molecular weight of approximately 120,000 daltons.
- 10. The cross linked, polymerized hemoglobin of claim 1, wherein the hemoglobin is characterized by having a P50 of about 14 torr to about 22 torr.
