Claims
- 1. A method for defining a service area served by one of a plurality of service locations of a telecommunications network customer, the method comprising:ascertaining a geographic designator of a geographic area, the geographic area including a plurality of geographic sub-areas that each correspond to a geographic sub-designator; determining whether any two of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are not served by the same service location; when any two of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are not served by the same service location, then defining the service area by only the sub-designators corresponding to the geographic sub-areas served by the service location; and when each of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are served by the same service location, then defining the service area by the geographic designator.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:storing, in a table, a plurality of geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining the service area.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:storing the table at a service control point used to route calls to the service location.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:associating a call with the service location by comparing a geographic designator of a caller with the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators of the table.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining the service area are each correlated with a predefined telephone number of the service location.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the geographic designator comprises one of a zip code, a zip code+1, a zip code+2 and a zip code+3.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality sub-designators comprises one of a zip code+1, a zip code+2, a zip code+3 and a zip code+4.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising comparing the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining the service area against customer geographic information.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the customer geographic information comprises a geographic designation of call origination.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising using the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators to limit incoming calls to the service location to calls originating within the service area.
- 11. A computer readable medium storing a computer program that defines a service area served by one of a plurality of service locations of a telecommunications network customer by:ascertaining a geographic designator of a geographic area, the geographic area including a plurality of geographic sub-areas that each correspond to a geographic sub-designator; determining whether any two of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are not served by the same service location; and when any two of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are not served by the same service location, then defining the service area by only the sub-designators corresponding to the geographic sub-areas served by the service location; and when each of the plurality of geographic sub-areas are served by the same service location, then defining the service area by the geographic designator.
- 12. The computer readable medium of claim 11, the defining a service area further comprising:storing, in a table, a plurality of geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining the service area.
- 13. The computer readable medium of claim 12, wherein the table is stored at a service control point used to route calls to the service location.
- 14. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein a call is associated with the service location by comparing a geographic designator of a caller with the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators of the table.
- 15. The computer readable medium of claim 11, the defining a service area further comprising:correlating the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining a service area with a predefined telephone number of the service location.
- 16. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the geographic designator comprises one of a zip code, a zip code+1, a zip code+2, a zip code+3, and a zip code+4.
- 17. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein each of the plurality of sub-designators comprises one of a zip code+1, a zip code+2, a zip code+3 and a zip code+4.
- 18. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators defining the service area are compared against customer geographic information.
- 19. The computer readable medium of claim 18, wherein the customer geographic information comprises a geographic designation of call origination.
- 20. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the geographic designators and geographic sub-designators are used to limit incoming calls to the one of the service locations to calls originating within a predefined service area.
