Claims
- 1. A nucleic acid molecule encoding a polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:
(a) the nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:4; (b) the nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:5; (c) the nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:6; (d) the nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:9 (e) a nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:8; (f) a nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:10; (g) a nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:11; (h) a nucleic acid molecule that encodes a polypeptide that is at least 70 percent identical to the polypeptides of SEQ ID NO:7, SEQ ID NO:8, SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11; and (i) a nucleic acid molecule that is the complement of any of (a)-(h) above.
- 2. The nucleic acid molecule that is SEQ ID NO:4.
- 3. The nucleic acid molecule that is SEQ ID NO:5.
- 4. The nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:6.
- 5. The nucleic acid molecule of SEQ ID NO:9.
- 6. A nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7.
- 7. A nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:8.
- 8. A nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:10.
- 9. A nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:11.
- 10. A vector comprising the nucleic acid molecule of claim 1.
- 11. A vector comprising the nucleic acid molecule of claim 2.
- 12. A vector comprising the nucleic acid molecule of claim 3.
- 13. A vector comprising the nucleic acid molecule of claim 4.

- 24. A process for producing an ART polypeptide comprising the steps of:
(a) expressing a polypeptide encoded by the nucleic acid of claim 1 in a suitable host; and (b) isolating the polypeptide.
- 25. The process of claim 19 wherein the polypeptide is selected from the group consisting of: SEQ ID NO:7, SEQ ID NO:8, SEQ ID NO:10, and SEQ ID NO:11.
- 26. An ART polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:
(a) the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7; (b) the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:8; (c) the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:10; (d) the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:11; and (e) a polypeptide that is 70 percent homologous with the polypeptide of (a) or (b).
- 27. An ART polypeptide that is the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:7, SEQ ID NO:8, SEQ ID NO:10, SEQ ID NO:11, or a biologically active fragment thereof.
- 28. An ART polypeptide that is at least 70 percent identical to the ART polypeptide of claim 27.
- 29. The ART polypeptide of claim 27 that does not possess an amino terminal methionine.
- 30. The ART polypeptide of claim 27 that possesses an amino terminal methionine.
- 31. A method of increasing food uptake in a mammal comprising administering the polypeptide of claim 27 to the mammal.
