Claims
- 1. A peptide of formula 1
- X-NR.sup.1 -CH(R.sup.2)-C(W.sup.1)-NH-CR.sup.3 (R.sup.4)-C(W.sup.2)-NR.sup.5 -CH CH.sup.2 C(O)-Y!-C(W.sup.3)-NH-CR.sup.6 - CR.sup.7 CR.sup.8)-COOH!-C(W.sup.4)-NH-CR.sup.9 (R.sup.10)-Z1
- wherein X is 4-methylpentanoyl, phenylpropionyl, (4-hydroxy-phenyl)propionyl or (3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propionyl; R.sup.1 is methyl; R.sup.2 is 1-methylethyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen; R.sup.4 is lower alkyl; R.sup.5 is hydrogen; R.sup.6 is hydrogen; R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 each independently are hydrogen or R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a lower cycloalkyl; R.sup.9 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.10 is 2-methylpropyl, 3-methylbutyl; 2,2-dimethylpropyl or 2-cyclohexylethyl; W.sup.1, W.sup.2 and W.sup.3 are oxo; W.sup.4 is oxo or thioxo; Y is 1-methylheptyloxy, dodecyloxy, N(Me)OMe, N,N-diethylamino, N,N-diisopropylamino, N-methyl-N-octylamino, pyrrolidino or morpholino; and Z is hydrogen, COOH, CH.sub.2 OH, CONR.sup.14 R.sup.15 wherein R.sup.14 and R.sup.15 each independently are hydrogen; or a therapeutically acceptable salt.
- 2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a peptide as recited in claim 1, or a therapeutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically or veterinarily acceptable carrier.
- 3. A cosmetic composition comprising a peptide as recited in claim 1, or a therapeutically acceptable salt thereof, and a physiologically acceptable carrier suitable for topical application.
- 4. A method of treating a herpes vital infection in a mammal comprising administering thereto an effective amount of a peptide as recited in claim 1, or a therapeutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 5. A method of claim 4 wherein the herpes vital infection is a herpes simplex viral infection.
- 6. A method of inhibiting the replication of herpes virus comprising contacting the virus with a herpes vital ribonucleotide reductase inhibiting amount of the peptide as recited in claim 1, or a therapeutically acceptable salt thereof.
