Claims
- 1. An apparatus for positioning a microcannula, said apparatus comprising:
means for moving an attached microcannula; and means for positioning said means for holding.
- 2. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 1 wherein said means for moving comprises:
means for retaining said microcannula; a micromanipulator attached to and for moving said means for retaining, said micromanipulator including a control member for moving said means for retaining forward or backward.
- 3. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 2 wherein said micromanipulator is attached to said means for retaining by a translational stage; wherein said control member is a screw handle associated with said translational stage; wherein turning said screw handle in one direction causes said means for retaining to move forward with respect to said micromanipulator and turning said screw handle in an opposite direction causes said means for retaining to move backward with respect to said micromanipulator.
- 4. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 1 wherein said means for positioning comprises:
a first arm member attached to said means for moving; at least one elongated member pivotally attached to said first arm member; and means for securing said at least one elongated member.
- 5. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 4 wherein said at least one elongated member comprises:
a first elongated member pivotally attached to said first arm member; a second elongated member pivotally attached to said first elongated member; a third elongated member pivotally attached to said second elongated member; and a fourth elongated member pivotally attached to said third elongated member; wherein said first arm and said elongated members are freely mobile in their “X”, “Y”, and “Z” planes.
- 6. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 5 wherein each of the pivot attachments is accomplished by a joint member.
- 7. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 4 wherein said means for securing is a base member.
- 8. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 7 wherein said base member is attached to a wrist rest such that a surgeon's view through an operating microscope is not encumbered or otherwise interfered with.
- 9. The apparatus for positioning a microcannula of claim 3 further including a tube attached to said screw handle, said tube allowing a user to remotely turn said screw handle in a desired direction.
- 10. An apparatus for positioning a microcannula, said apparatus comprising:
means for retaining a microcannula; and means for positioning said means for retaining.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said means for retaining is a holder having a microcannula receiving slot and a set screw retaining assembly; wherein a microcannula is disposed within the receiving slot and the set screw retaining assembly is operated to retain the microcannula in its disposed position within the receiving slot.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein said means for positioning comprises:
a stabilization arm having a first end and a second end, said means for retaining attached approximately at the first end of said stabilization arm, said stabilization arm including a tightening member; and means for securing the stablization arm to an object.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein said means for securing comprises:
a post; a mounting clamp attached to said post; and means for attaching said post approximately at the second end of said stabilization arm.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein said means for attaching is a set screw retaining assembly disposed at the second end of said stabilization arm.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein said tightening member is a set screw tightening/loosening assembly.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein said object is a wrist rest.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 10 further including an illumination positioning arm associated with said means for positioning and an accessory arm attached to said illumination positioning arm, said accessory arm having at least one opening.
- 18. An apparatus for positioning a microcannula, said apparatus comprising:
a holder having a microcannula receiving slot and a first set screw retaining assembly, wherein a microcannula is disposed within the receiving slot and the first set screw retaining assembly is operated to retain the microcannula in its disposed position within the receiving slot; a stabilization arm having a first end and a second end, said holder attached approximately at the first end of said stabilization arm, said stabilization arm including a tightening member; a post attached approximately at the second end of the stabilization arm by a second set screw retaining assembly; a mounting clamp attached to said post; wherein the tightening member is a set screw tightening/loosening assembly.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said mounting clamp is attached to a wrist rest.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 18 further including an illumination positioning arm attached to said post above an attachment point of said stabilization arm to said post and an accessory arm attached to said illumination positioning arm, said accessory arm having at least one opening.
