Claims
- 1. A modular type replaceable heating unit for use in a device for sealing a flat lid with a lower layer of heat bondable material onto an upper, generally flat flange extending around the periphery of an access opening in a container, said sealing device including a plurality of said heating units, means for sequentially moving said modular heating units vertically to and away from said lid, a power supply, a connector for each heating unit electrically connected to said power supply having a first pair of electrical contacts which are stationary relative to said moving means, said modular heating unit comprising: (i) a housing adapted to be mounted to said moving means; (ii) an inductor extending from the lower portion of said housing and adapted to seat against said lid for heat sealing said lid to said flanges; (iii) a matching transformer within said housing, said transformer having a secondary connected to said inductor and a primary; (iv) a pair of bayonet type second contacts extending from said housing and electrically connected to said primary; and (v) cam means extending from said housing for selectively connecting said second contacts with said first contacts upon movement of said housing whereby said transformer and said inductor is energized by said power supply.
- 2. A heating unit as defined in claim 1 wherein said sealing system includes stationary passage means for drawing a vacuum, and said heating unit includes passage means adapted to be in fluid communication with said container, said cam means operable to connect said stationary passages with said passage means upon movement of said housing whereby a vacuum can be selectively drawn in said container.
- 3. The heating unit of claim 1 wherein said secondary is a single turn winding, and said inductor is a single turn air cooled only inductor.
