Claims
- 1. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus comprising an absorbent material; and a spine positioned in said absorbent material and having resilient springlike properties whereby, upon insertion into the uterus, said absorbent material conforms to the wall of the uterus.
- 2. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus as recited in claim 1 wherein said absorbent material has a first configuration in a dry state and a second configuration in a wet state conforming to the wall of the uterus.
- 3. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus as recited in claim 2 wherein said absorbent material is an opencell sponge.
- 4. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus as recited in claim 1 wherein said spine is electrically conductive.
- 5. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus comprising an absorbent material having a first configuration in a dry state to facilitate insertion into the uterus and a second configuration caused by wetting of said absorbent material, said second configuration conforming to and contacting the wall of the uterus after insertion therein.
- 6. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus as recited in claim 5 and further comprising electrically conductive members carried by said absorbent material.
- 7. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus as recited in claim 6 wherein said absorbent material has a peripheral surface in said second configuration and said electrically conductive members terminate at said peripheral surface of said absorbent material.
- 8. A device for use in ablation of the endometrium of the uterus comprising a synthetic sponge made of a reaction product of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde, said sponge having a rodlike configuration in a dry state to facilitate insertion in the uterus and a configuration conforming to the wall of the uterus in a wet state after insertion in the uterus.
