Claims
- 1. A method for separating pairs of contact merge single-sided hard memory disks, wherein each disk has a center aperture and an outer perimeter edge, the method comprising:
a. placing at least one pair of contact merge disks in a first carrier having a first end and a second end; b. removing all contact merge pairs of disks from the first carrier; c. creating separation between the contact merge disks; d. transferring all separated disks to a second carrier having a first end and a second end and maintaining the relative orientation of the surfaces of the disks; e. removing from the second carrier all of the disks having an active surface facing the first end of the second carrier; f. transferring all of the disks removed from the second carrier having an active surface facing the first end of the second carrier to a third carrier; g. removing from the second carrier all of the remaining disks; h. transferring all of the remaining disks to a fourth carrier.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein creating a separation between the contact merge disks comprises causing contact between the disks and a demerge tool.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein removing all contact merge disks from the first carrier comprises engaging the disks at a portion of their outer perimeter edge.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein transferring all separated disks to a second carrier comprises engaging the disks at their center aperture.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein removing from the second carrier all disks having an active surface facing the first end of the second carrier comprises engaging the disks at a portion of their outer perimeter edge.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein transferring all of the disks removed from the second carrier having an active surface facing the first end of the second carrier to a third carrier comprises engaging the disks at their center aperture.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein removing from the second carrier all of the remaining disks comprises engaging the disks at their center aperture.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein transferring all of the remaining disks to a fourth carrier comprises engaging the disks at their center aperture.
- 9. A method for separating single-sided hard disks, comprising:
a. positioning a plurality of single-sided disks in a first disk carrier with a portion of the disks having a first orientation and the remaining disks having a second orientation; b. removing all of the disks having a first orientation from the first carrier; c. removing all of the disks having a second orientation from the disk carrier.
- 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising placing the disks having a first orientation in a second disk carrier following their removal from the first carrier.
- 11. The method of claim 9, further comprising placing the disks having a second orientation in a third carrier following their removal from the first carrier.
- 12. The method of claim 9, further comprising forming a space between all disks prior to positioning a plurality of single-sided disks in a first carrier.
- 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising positioning the plurality of single-sided disks in a fourth carrier prior to forming a space between said disks.
- 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising positioning the plurality of single-sided disks in contact merge orientation in the fourth carrier.
- 15. The method of claim 13, further comprising positioning the plurality of single-sided disks in a gap merge orientation in the fourth carrier.
- 16. The method of claim 14, wherein forming a space between all of the disks comprises demerging the contact merge oriented disks.
- 17. The method of claim 9, wherein positioning a plurality of single-sided disks in a first carrier comprises positioning the disks in a single axially aligned row.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein removing all of the disks having a first orientation comprises removing every other disk in the single axially aligned row.
- 19. The method of separating pairs of contact merge single-sided hard memory disks, comprising:
a. providing a plurality of contact merge disks in a single axially aligned row; b. demerging the contact merge pairs of disks; c. separating all of the disks into two groups based upon the common direction the active surface of each disk faces.
- 20. The method of claim 19, further comprising positioning the single axially aligned row of a plurality of contact merge disks in a first carrier prior to demerging the contact merge pair of disks.
- 21. The method of claim 19, further comprising placing all of the disks in a second carrier following demerging the contact merge pairs of disks.
- 22. The method of claim 19, wherein separating the disks into two groups comprises placing one group in a first carrier and the second group in a second carrier.
- 23. The method of claim 21, wherein separating all of the disks into two grooves comprises removing the first group from the second carrier and placing the first group in a third carrier.
- 24. The method of claim 23, wherein separating all of the disks into two groups comprises removing the second group from the second carrier and placing the second group in a fourth carrier.
- 25. The method of separating pairs of gap merge single-sided hard memory disks, comprising:
a. providing a plurality of gap merge disks in a single axially aligned row; b. demerging the gap merge pairs of disks; c. separating all of the disks into two groups based upon the common direction the active surface of each disk faces.
- 26. The method of claim 19, further comprising positioning the single axially aligned row of a plurality of gap merge disks in a first carrier prior to demerging the gap merge pair of disks.
- 27. The method of claim 19, further comprising placing all of the disks in a second carrier following demerging the gap merge pairs of disks.
- 28. The method of claim 19, wherein separating the disks into two groups comprises placing one group in a first carrier and the second group in a second carrier.
- 29. The method of claim 21, wherein separating all of the disks into two grooves comprises removing the first group from the second carrier and placing the first group in a third carrier.
- 30. The method of claim 23, wherein separating all of the disks into two groups comprises removing the second group from the second carrier and placing the second group in a fourth carrier.
- 31. A method for combining disk substrate disks into pairs, the substrate disk having a center aperture and an outer perimeter edge, comprising:
a. positioning a first plurality of substrate disks in a first carrier, such that the substrate disks are axially aligned and substantially equally spaced apart; b. positioning a second plurality of substrate disks in a second carrier, such that the substrate disks are axially aligned and substantially equally spaced apart; c. combining the first and second plurality of substrate disks in a third container such that the substrate disks are positioned in spaced apart pairs of substrate disks, with the space separating a pair of substrate disks from each adjacent pair of substrate disks being larger than the space between the two substrate disks comprising each pair.
- 32. The method of claim 31, further comprising positioning each pair of substrate disks in the third container in a contact merge orientation.
- 33. The method of claim 31, further comprising positioning each pair of substrate disks in the third container in a gap merge orientation.
- 34. The method of claim 31, wherein combining the first and second plurality of substrate disks in a third container further comprises engaging the first plurality of substrate disks at their center aperture.
- 35. The method of claim 31, wherein combining the first and second plurality of substrate disks in a third container further comprises engaging the first and second plurality of substrate disks at their center aperture.
- 36. The method of claim 31, further comprising combining the first and second plurality of substrate disks in a fourth container prior to combining the first and second plurality of substrate disks in the third container.
- 37. The method of claim 36, further comprising positioning the first and second substrate disks in the fourth container in an orientation where all of the substrate disks are substantially equally spaced apart.
- 38. A method for separating contact merge pairs of single-sided hard memory disks, the method comprising:
a. providing a first cassette containing a plurality of spaced pairs of single-sided hard memory disks in contact merge orientation; b. removing all of the disks from the cassette; c. creating a separation between the disks of each pair; d. placing the disks in a second cassette with a space between every disk and the disks adjacent to it; e. removing every other disk from the second cassette and transferring them to a third cassette; f. removing the remaining disks from the second cassette and placing them in a fourth cassette.
- 39. The method of claim 38, wherein removing all of the disks from the cassette comprises engaging the disks at the bottom perimeter edge and moving them to a position elevated above the cassette.
- 40. The method of claim 38, wherein creating a separation between the disks of each pair further comprises engaging the disks with a demerge tool.
- 41. The method of claim 40, wherein creating a separation between the disks of each pair further comprises positioning a wedge between the inside surfaces of the disks of each pair.
- 42. The method of claim 38, wherein placing the disks in a second cassette with a space between every disk further comprises engaging the disks at their center aperture.
- 43. The method of claim 41, further comprising positioning the wedge between the inside surfaces of the disks of each pair along the upper perimeter edges of the disks.
- 44. The method of claim 38, wherein removing every other disk from the second cassette further comprises engaging the disks along the bottom perimeter edge.
- 45. The method of claim 44, wherein transferring the disks removed from the second cassette to a third cassette comprises engaging said disks at their center aperture.
- 46. The method of claim 38, wherein removing the remaining disks from the second cassette comprises engaging said remaining disks at their center aperture.
- 47. A method for combining substrate disks into pairs, the substrate disks having a center aperture and an outer perimeter edge, comprising:
a. providing a first container having a first plurality of equally spaced substrate disks; b. providing a second container having a second plurality of spaced substrate disks; c. transferring the first plurality of substrate disks to a third container; d. transferring the second plurality of substrate disks to the third container; e. forming a substantially equal space between all of the first and second substrate disks in the third container; f. transferring all of the substrate disks from the third container to a fourth container; g. positioning the substrate disks in spaced pairs in the fourth container, with the space between each pair of substrate disks and an adjacent pair of substrate disks being larger than the space between the two substrate disks comprising each pair of substrate disks.
- 48. The method of claim 47, wherein positioning the substrate disks in the fourth container comprises positioning the substrate disk pairs in a contact merge orientation.
- 49. The method of claim 47, wherein positioning the substrate disks in the fourth container comprises positioning the substrate disk pairs in a gap merge orientation.
- 50. The method of claim 47, wherein transferring the first and second plurality of substrate disks to a third container comprises placing substrate disks from the second container between substrate disks for from the first container.
- 51. The method of claim 47, wherein transferring the first plurality of substrate disks to the third container comprises engaging the first plurality of substrate disks at their center aperture.
- 52. The method of claim 51, wherein transferring the second plurality of substrate disks to the third container comprises first engaging the second plurality of substrate disks at their center aperture and subsequently engaging the second plurality of substrate disks at a portion of their outer perimeter edge.
- 53. The method of claim 52, wherein transferring all of the substrate disks from the third container to the fourth container comprises engaging all of the substrate disks at their center aperture.
- 54. The method of claim 47, wherein providing a first plurality of substrate disks comprises providing 25 substrate disks.
- 55. The method of claim 47, wherein providing a second plurality of substrate disks comprises providing 25 substrate disks.
