Claims
- 1. An outdoor equipment cabinet comprising:
an enclosure for enclosing active communications equipment; at least one back-up battery disposed in the enclosure; a generally flat cold plate disposed in direct thermal conducive contact with said at least one battery; and means disposed in said enclosure for maintaining said cold plate at a substantially constant predetermined temperature selected to extend the useful life of said at least one battery.
- 2. The cabinet of claim 1 wherein:
the means for maintaining the cold plate at a constant predetermined temperature includes a compressor and a refrigerant.
- 3. The cabinet of claim 1 wherein:
the temperature is maintained at about 25° C.
- 4. The cabinet of claim 1 including:
a layer of insulation disposed underneath said cold plate, said cold plate being disposed underneath said at least one back-up battery.
- 5. The cabinet of claim 1 wherein:
said enclosure includes an equipment chamber and a separate battery chamber.
- 6. The cabinet of claim 1 including:
a heating pad disposed underneath said cold plate.
- 7. The cabinet of claim 6 including:
a layer of insulation disposed underneath said heating pad; and wherein the temperature is maintained at about 25° C.
- 8. The cabinet of claim 7 wherein:
the enclosure has an equipment chamber and a battery chamber; and means in said enclosure for causing air to move past said cold plate in said battery chamber before exchanging heat with air in said equipment chamber.
