Claims
- 1. Apparatus for producing a molded article from plastic material, in which a blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material is introduced into a shaping cavity and pressed thereagainst with a stamp to produce a molded article,
- said apparatus comprising:
- a rotary table means;
- a plurality of upwardly opening shaping cavity means provided on said rotary table means at equi-angularly distributed locations in a coaxial ring, each shaping cavity means having shaping surface means therein;
- a respective plurality of stamps, each paired with a respective shaping cavity means, and mounted by mounting means to rotate with said rotary table means;
- each stamp being movably mounted by the respective mounting means for movement between a first position wherein that stamp is spatially displaced from vertically obstructing relation to the respective shaping cavity means and extending substantially horizontally and a second position, wherein such stamp is vertically juxtaposed upon the respective shaping cavity means in vertically obstructing relation thereto and positioned to be thrust into partially filling, closing relation with the respective shaping cavity means;
- means coordinated with rotation of said rotary table means for periodically moving each stamp between said first and second positions thereof, and for thrusting that stamp once into said partially filling, closing relation then withdrawing during each time interval that stamp is in said second position thereof;
- a supply means for plasticizable, heated plastic material, said supply means having an extruding-type material supply head in vertical juxtaposition over the rotary table means at a site so spatially determined, that as said rotary table means rotates, the shaping cavity means are successively temporarily brought into directly underlying relation with said material supply head for dispensing into each such shaping cavity means a respective blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material, said supply head having a substantially vertically downward extruding direction;
- said stamp moving means also being coordinated with regard to approaching juxtaposition of each succeeding stamp and shaping cavity means pair, so that as each said pair approaches said site, the respective stamp is moved from said second position thereof to said first position thereof to be out of the way in time to permit the material supply head to dispense a blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material into the respective shaping cavity.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:
- said rotary table means is an indexing rotary table means equipped to index to a number of positions corresponding in plurality to said plurality of shaping cavity means.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:
- each shaping cavity means is at least generally rotationally symmetrical about a vertical axis passing centrally therethrough, and
- the respective stamp when in said second position thereof is coaxially aligned with its respective shaping cavity means.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein:
- said stamp moving means is constructed to swing each stamp between the first and second positions thereof.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:
- said material supply head comprises an at least generally circular outlet opening having an at least generally conical valve body relatively coaxially movably mounted therein for relative axial movement in a sense to permit extrusion of the plasticizable, heated plastic material in a succession of annular blanks from between the generally circular outlet and the generally conical valve body with relative movement between the generally conical valve body and the generally circular outlet controlling wall thickness of the annular blanks between substantially zero thickness and a substantial thickness.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:
- each stamp, when in the first position thereof is axially aligned with a respective radius of said rotary table means and pointed radially outwards toward the respective shaping cavity means.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an intermittently-operated gas jet means aimed obliquely downward toward where the plasticizable, heated plastic material extrudes from said material supply head for periodically aiding in cutting the extruding material into successive individual blanks.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein:
- said material supply head comprises an at least generally circular outlet opening having an at least generally conical valve body relatively coaxially movably mounted therein for relative axial movement in a sense to permit extrusion of the plasticizable, heated plastic material in a succession of annular blanks from between the generally circular outlet and the generally conical valve body with relative movement between the generally conical valve body and the generally circulat outlet controlling wall thickness of the annular blanks between substantially zero thickness and a substantial thickness;
- an intermittently-operated gas jet means aimed obliquely downward toward where the plasticizable, heated plastic material extrudes from said material supply head for periodically aiding in cutting the extruding material into successive individual blanks;
- said intermittently-operated gas jet means comprising an at least generally circular ring jet coaxially surrounding said material supply head.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein:
- each stamp includes means for sleevingly accepting a tubular sidewall of plastic material thereon for fusing unification with the plasticizable, heated plastic material of the respective blank upon said thrusting of the respective stamp into partially filling, closing relation with the respective shaping cavity means.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein:
- said material supply head is disposed sufficiently above each shaping cavity means when axially aligned therewith that, after a respective blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material is separated from said material supply head, it must free fall under the influence of gravity to reach the respective shaping surface means of the respective shaping cavity means.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein:
- each shaping cavity means shaping surface means includes a centrally located, axially upwardly extending projection; and
- said material supply head comprises an at least generally circular outlet opening having an at least generally conical valve body relatively coaxially movably mounted therein for relative axial movement in a sense to permit extrusion of the plasticizable, heated plastic material in a succession of annular blanks from between the generally circular outlet and the generally concial valve body with relative movement between the generally conical valve body and the generally circular outlet controlling wall thickness of the annular blanks between substantially zero thickness and a substantial thickness, so that as each blank falls into a respective shaping cavity means, it rings the respective projection therein.
- 12. Apparatus for producing a container tube, in which a blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material is introduced into a shaping cavity and pressed thereagainst with a stamp while being fused to a preformed tubular body,
- said apparatus comprising:
- a rotary table means;
- a plurality of upwardly opening shaping cavity means provided on said rotary table means at equi-angularly distributed locations in a coaxial ring, each shaping cavity means having shaping surface means therein;
- a respective plurality of stamps, each having a free end paired with a respective shaping cavity means, and mounted by mounting means to rotate with said rotary table means;
- each stamp being movably mounted by the respective mounting means for movement between a loading position wherein that stamp is spatially displaced from vertically obstructing relation to the respective shaping cavity means and extending substantially horizontally with said free end being outwardly directed relative to said rotary table means and a working position, wherein such stamp is vertically juxtaposed upon the respective shaping cavity means in vertically obstructing relation thereto and positioned to be thrust into partially filling, closing relation with the respective shaping cavity means;
- means coordinated with rotation of said rotary table means for periodically moving each stamp between said loading and working positions thereof, and for thrusting that stamp once, free end first, into said partially filling, closing relation then withdrawing during each time interval that stamp is in said working position thereof;
- a supply means for plasticizable, heated plastic material, said supply means having an extruding-type material supply head in vertical juxtaposition over the rotary table means at a site so spatially determined, that as said rotary table means rotates, the shaping cavity means are successively temporarily brought into directly underlying relation with said material, for dispensing into each such shaping cavity means a respective blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material, said supply head having a substantially vertically downward extruding direction;
- a loading means for tubular bodies, said loading means being disposed adjacent to said rotary table means and being so positioned with respect to said stamps thereon, that as said rotary table means rotates, said stamps while in said loading position are successively temporarily brought into alignment with said loading means for provision of a preformed tubular body on each stamp prior to movement of such stamp to said working position thereof with each such preformed tubular body being placed so near to said free end to the respective said stamp that as such stamp is thrust free end first into said shaping cavity means as aforesaid, the said preformed tubular body provided thereon becomes fused with a respective blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material which has been dispensed into the respective shaping cavity by said supply means;
- said stamp moving means also being coordinated with regard to approaching juxtaposition of each succeeding stamp and shaping cavity means pair, so that as each said pair approaches said site, the respective stamp is moved from said working position thereof to said loading position thereof to be out of the way in time to permit the material supply head to dispense a blank of plasticizable, heated plastic material into the respective shaping cavity.
