- a boom member mounted on said telescoping mast for positioning at a preselected elevation within the refractory body upon extension and retraction of said telescoping mast,
- means for connecting said boom member to said telescoping mast for rotational movement of said boom member about said nonrotatable telescoping mast and linear movement relative to said telescoping mast,
- a spray nozzle positioned on said boom member, said spray nozzle connected to a source of a refractory slurry for spray application upon the interior surface of the refractory body,
- drive means for moving said telescoping mast in a linear path to advance said spray nozzle within the refractory body positioned a preselected distance from the interior surface as said boom member rotates about said nonrotatable telescoping mast to apply the refractory slurry from said nozzle uniformly on the interior surface, and
- said boom member movable linearly to maintain said spray nozzle a preselected distance from the interior surface as said telescoping mast moves said spray nozzle through the elevation of the refractory body.
- 6. Gunning apparatus as set forth in claim 5 which includes,
- carriage means for supporting said telescoping mast in a collapsed position for movement into the refractory body to a preselected position for moving said mast to the upstanding position, and
- hoist means mounted on said carriage means for extending and retracting said telescoping mast to position said boom member at a preselected elevation in said refractory body.
- 7. Gunning apparatus as set forth in claim 5 in which,
- said telescoping mast includes a lower end portion,
- a drive assembly connected to said mast lower end portion for rotation about the longitudinal axis of said telescoping mast,
- linkage means for connecting said drive assembly to said boom member for pivotal movement of said boom member in a vertical plane relative to said telescoping mast,
- said linkage means transmitting rotation from said drive assembly to said boom member to rotate said boom member about said telescoping mast, and
- means for mounting said boom member on said linkage means for linear movement laterally of said telescoping mast and pivoted to a preselected angle relative to said telescoping mast.
- 8. Gunning apparatus as set forth in claim 7 which includes,
- means for sequentially moving said telescoping mast in a vertical plane for positioning said boom member at preselected elevations in the refractory body, and
- said boom member rotated relative to said telescoping mast at the preselected elevations as the refractory slurry is applied to the interior surface.
- 9. Apparatus for repairing the refractory lining of a metallurgical vessel comprising,
- a telescoping mast supported in the vessel for horizontal and vertical traversing movement,
- a boom member supported by said mast for rotational and linear traversing movement within the vessel,
- said boom member having opposite end portions,
- a spray nozzle,
- means for pivotally mounting said spray nozzle for movement through an arc on one end of said boom member,
- dislodging means for removing loose seal and debris from the refractory lining mounted on an opposite end of said boom member,
- means for traversing said boom member to position said dislodging means a preselected distance from the refractory lining, and
- means for advancing said dislodging means into contact with the refractory lining to dislodge scale and other loose material from the surface of the refractory lining to prepare the lining to receive spray of refractory material applied by said spray nozzle for relining the interior of the vessel.
- 10. Apparatus as set forth in claim 9 which includes,
- means for rotating said boom member to position said dislodging means at desired locations opposite the interior surface at a preselected elevation within the vessel.
- 11. Apparatus as set forth in claim 9 which includes,
