- 4. The applicator of claim 2, wherein said adhesive material is disposed on said exterior surface of said at least one crushable ampoule.
- 5. The applicator of claim 2, wherein said adhesive material is disposed on said interior surface of said at least one crushable ampoule.
- 6. The applicator of claim 2, wherein said adhesive material covers an entire longitudinally central surface of said ampoule.
- 7. The applicator of claim 2, wherein said adhesive coating comprises a polymerized α-cyanoacrylate.
- 8. The applicator of claim 1, further comprising a flexible applicator body, wherein said flexible applicator body has a hollow lumen and said at least one crushable ampoule is located within said hollow lumen of said applicator body.
- 9. A The applicator of claim 8, which comprises a first crushable ampoule and a second crushable ampoule.
- 10. The applicator of claim 9, wherein each crushable ampoule contains a different material, and wherein the different materials react with each other upon contact.
- 11. The applicator of claim 8 wherein said flexible applicator body comprises cellulose acetate butyrate.
- 12. The applicator of claim 11, wherein said at least one crushable ampoule comprises glass.
- 13. The applicator of claim 8, wherein said barrier material is a polymeric film applied between said ampoule and said applicator body.
- 14. A method of applying a substance to a surface, comprising squeezing an applicator of claim 8, with a user's fingers to crush the ampoule and dispense a substance contained within the ampoule onto said surface, the barrier material protecting the user's fingers from shards created during the crushing.
- 15. The method of claim 14, wherein said substance is a cyanoacrylate adhesive.
- 16. The applicator of claim 1, wherein said crushable ampoule contains a cyanoacrylate adhesive.
- 17. The applicator of claim 1, wherein said at least one crushable ampoule contains a material to be dispensed.
- 18. The applicator of claim 17, wherein said material to be dispensed is a cyanoacrylate adhesive.
- 19. The applicator of claim 1, wherein said at least one crushable ampoule comprises glass.
- 20. The applicator of claim 1, wherein said barrier material is a plastic coating on at least one of said interior and said exterior surface of said crushable ampoule.
- 21. A method of applying a substance to a surface, comprising squeezing an applicator of claim 1 with a user's fingers to crush the ampoule and dispense a substance contained within the ampoule onto said surface, the barrier material protecting the user's fingers from shards created during the crushing.
- 22. A method making an applicator, comprising:providing at least one crushable ampoule having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the crushable ampoule being crushable upon application of a force applied by a user's fingers, and applying a barrier material over at least one of said interior and said exterior surface curing the barrier material so as to be affixed to said at least one surface, wherein said barrier material protects against reorientation of shards created during crushing of said at least one crushable ampoule.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein said at least one crushable ampoule contains a composition to be dispensed.
- 24. The method of claim 22, wherein said barrier material is a plastic coating which is applied to the at least one of said interior and exterior surface by coating the at least one surface.
- 25. The method of claim 22, wherein said barrier material is an adhesive.
- 26. The method of claim 22, further comprising:providing a flexible applicator body having an open end, a closed end, and a hollow lumen, and inserting said at least one crushable ampoule into said hollow lumen of said flexible applicator body.
- 27. The method of claim 26, wherein said barrier material is an adhesive material.
- 28. The method of claim 27, comprising allowing said adhesive material to cure before inserting said at least one crushable ampoule into said applicator body.
- 29. The method of claim 27, comprising inserting said at least one crushable ampoule into said applicator body before said adhesive material cures.
- 30. The method of claim 26, comprising:applying said barrier material into said lumen at said closed end of said flexible applicator body, and inserting said at least one crushable ampoule through said open end and into said hollow lumen of said flexible applicator body until said at least one crushable ampoule contacts said barrier material, and forcing said barrier material between said at least one crushable ampoule and said flexible applicator body by continuing to insert said at least one ampoule into said hollow lumen until said at least one crushable ampoule contacts said closed end of said applicator body.
- 31. The method of claim 30, wherein said barrier material is disposed over at least a longitudinally central portion of said at least one crushable ampoule.
- 32. The method of claim 22, comprising covering an entire longitudinally central surface of said ampoule with said barrier material.
- 33. The method of claim 22, wherein said barrier material is an adhesive.
- 34. An applicator comprising:at least one crushable ampoule having an interior surface, an exterior surface, and a central portion, and a cured adhesive material adhered to at least one of said interior and said exterior surface, wherein said cured adhesive material protects against reorientation of shards created during crushing of said at least one crushable ampoule at said central portion.
