Claims
- 1. An armature for a receiver comprising:
a first leg portion having a thickness and a width; a second leg portion having a thickness and a width, the second leg portion connected to the first leg portion; and a connection portion in communication with the first and second leg portions, the connection portion having a width greater than the width of the first and second leg portions individually, the connection portion reducing the stiffness of the armature and minimizing magnetic reluctance of the connection between the first and second leg portions.
- 2. The armature of claim 1, wherein the connection portion includes at least a portion having a thickness less than the thickness of the first and second leg portions individually.
- 3. The armature of claim 1, wherein the first and second leg portions are integrally formed with the connection portion.
- 4. The armature of claim 1, wherein the first and second leg portions are separately formed.
- 5. The armature of claim 4, wherein the connection portion is formed by a first segment integrally formed with the first leg portion and a second segment integrally formed with the second leg portion, the first and second segments attached to each other to form the armature.
- 6. The armature of claim 1, wherein the connection portion is connected to the second leg portion to define two distinct legs of the second leg portion that are transverse to the first leg portion.
- 7. The armature of claim 1, wherein the first and second leg portions are spaced apart by the connection portion and generally parallel to each other.
- 8. An armature for a receiver comprising:
a first generally-flat leg portion having a thickness and a width; a second generally flat leg portion having a thickness and a width, the second leg portion connected to the first leg portion in a generally parallel orientation to each other; and a connection portion integrally formed with the first and second leg portions, the connection portion having a width greater than the width of the first and second leg portions individually and at least a portion having a thickness less than the thickness of the first and second leg portions individually; wherein the connection portion reduces the stiffness of the armature and minimizes magnetic reluctance of the connection between the first and second leg portions.
- 9. The armature of claim 8, further including two bends each adjacent to one of the leg portions to form a generally U-shaped configuration with the connection portion.
- 10. The armature of claim 8, wherein the leg portions are of generally equal length.
- 11. An armature for a receiver comprising:
a first generally-flat leg portion having a thickness and a width; a second generally flat leg portion having a thickness and a width, the second leg portion connected to the first leg portion; and a connection portion integrally formed with the first and second leg portions, the connection portion having a width greater than the width of the first and second leg portions individually and at least a portion having a thickness less than the thickness of the first and second leg portions individually, the connection portion connected to the second leg portion to define two legs of the second leg portion in a transverse orientation to the first leg portion; wherein the connection portion reduces the stiffness of the armature and minimizes magnetic reluctance of the connection between the first and second leg portions.
- 12. The armature of claim 1, further including three bends, one of the bends disposed adjacent to the second leg portion and the portion of reduced thickness of the connection portion, and two of the bends disposed within the second leg portion to form the two legs of the second leg portion.
- 13. The armature of claim 11, wherein the second leg portion has a generally U-shaped configuration.
- 14. An armature for a receiver comprising:
a first generally-flat leg portion having a thickness and a width; a second generally flat leg portion having a thickness and a width, the second leg portion connected to the first leg portion; and a connection portion formed by two segments each integrally formed with one of the first and second leg portions, the connection portion having a width greater than the width of the first and second leg portions individually and at least a portion having a thickness less than the thickness of the first and second leg portions individually; wherein the connection portion reduces the stiffness of the armature and minimizes magnetic reluctance of the connection between the first and second leg portions.
- 15. The armature of claim 14, wherein each of the leg portions are further defined by a length and each of the segments includes at least one tab transverse to a plane formed by the length and the width of the associated leg portion.
- 16. The armature of claim 15, wherein the tab of one segment is attached to the tab of the other segment.
- 17. The armature of claim 15, wherein the segments each have two tabs, the tabs of one segment pivotably fastened to the tabs of the other segment.
- 18. The armature of claim 15, wherein the tab of one of the segments is welded to the tab of the other segment thereby forming a gap between the segments.
- 19. The armature of claim 15, wherein the tab of one of the segments is adhered to the tab of the other segment thereby forming a gap between the segments.
- 20. An armature for a receiver comprising:
a first leg portion; a second leg portion connected to the first leg portion; means for reducing the stiffness of the armature; means for minimizing magnetic reluctance of the connection between the first and second leg portions.
