Claims
- 1. A method comprising the steps of:
- (a). storing a stack comprsing a plurality of sheets in a first storage location in a canister in an automated banking machine;
- (b). covering the first storage location with a movable door, the door being in rotatably mounted connection with the canister;
- (c). moving the door from a closed position to an open position;
- and at different times with the door in the open position:
- (d). delivering a sheet from the first storage location into a sheet path in the machine; and
- (e). receiving a sheet from the sheet path into the first storage location.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein step (d) comprises:
- biasing the stack of sheets in the storage location against an inner surface of the door;
- extending an engaging member through a first aperture in the first door to engage a top sheet in the stack adjacent the door; and
- moving the engaging member in a first direction in engagement with the top sheet, wherein the top sheet moves from the stack in the first direction.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 wherein step (d) further comprises:
- prior to the extending step, moving a movable member from a first position overlying the stack and disposed in underlying relation of the door, to a second position, wherein in the second position the movable member is not in overlying relation with the stack, wherein the top sheet is enabled to move from the stack in engagement with the engaging member.
- 4. The method according to claim 2 wherein step (d) further comprises:
- engaging the top sheet with a feed member and a stripping member, wherein sheets other than the top sheet are prevented from moving in the first direction from the stack.
- 5. The method according to claim 4 wherein step (d) further comprises:
- detecting with a sheet thickness detector device a thickness of the top sheet moved in the first direction beyond the stripper device, and
- responsive to sensing a thickness above a predetermined thickness in the detecting step, moving the first sheet in an opposed direction to return it to the stack.
- 6. The method according to claim 5 wherein step (d) further comprises again moving the engaging member in the first direction to move the top sheet in the stack in a first direction.
- 7. The method according to claim 5 wherein step (d) further comprises:
- responsive to sensing a thickness not above the predetermined thickness in the detecting step, further moving the top sheet in the first direction with the feed member;
- engaging the top sheet between a sheet moving member moving in the first direction and a second door overlying a second storage location in the canister; and
- moving the top sheet in engaged intermediate relation between the sheet moving member and the second door, in the first direction past the second storage location.
- 8. The method according to claim 7 wherein in step (d) in the step of engaging the top sheet between the first moving member and the second door, the sheet moving member includes a belt moving generally in the first direction, and the second door includes an outward extending projection extending along the first direction and transversely adjacent to the belt, and wherein the top sheet is engaged with both the projection and the belt.
- 9. The method according to claim 1 wherein step (e) comprises:
- holding the stack of sheets with a first movable member, wherein the stack is bound by a top sheet, and wherein the first movable member holds the stack when the first movable mnember is in a first position by engaging the top sheet; and
- accepting a new sheet between the first movable member and the door.
- 10. The method according to claim 9 wherein step (e) further comprises the step of moving the first movable member to a second position, wherein in the second position the first movable member no longer engages the top sheet.
- 11. The method according to claim 10 wherein step (e) further comprises the step of:
- moving the door to the closed position, and
- pushing the new sheet onto the top sheet, wherein the new sheet is pushed by operative engagement with the door.
- 12. The method according to claim 11 wherein step (e) after the pushing step further comprises engaging the new sheet with the first movable member by moving the first movable member from the second position to the first position with the door in the closed position, whereby the first movable member engages the new sheet.
- 13. The method according to claim 12 wherein the door includes a recess in an inner surface thereof, and wherein in step (e) in the step of engaging the new sheet with the first movable member, the first movable member moves from the second position to the first position while extending in the recess.
- 14. The method according to claim 9 wherein in step (e) the step of holding the stack with the top sheet comprises holding the top sheet with a pair of generally opposed movable fingers.
- 15. A method comprising the step of:
- (a) storing a stack comprising a plurality of sheets in a first storage location in a canister in an automated banking machine:
- (b) covering the storage location with a movable door,
- (c) moving the door from a closed position to an open position;
- and at different times with the door in the open position:
- (d) delivering a sheet from the storag location into a sheet path in the machine; and
- (e) receiving a sheet from the sheet path into the first storage location, including moving the sheet toward the first storage location in engagement with both a second door and a sheet moving member, wherein the second door overlies a second storage location holding a plurality of sheets.
- 16. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (e) in the sheet moving step the sheet moving member includes a belt, wherein the belt overlies both the first door and the second door and moves in generally the first direction.
- 17. The method according to claim 16 wherein the first door overlying the first storage area includes idler rolls in movably supporting connection therewith, and wherein in step (c) the belt is disposed away from the first storage location in engagement with the idler rolls.
- 18. Apparatus comprising:
- a canister including a first storage area and a second storage area, each of the first and second storage areas aapted for holding a plurality of sheets;
- a first door movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister and overlying the first storage area, wherein the first storage area is disposed in a first direction relative to the second storage area; and
- a sheet thickness detector device in supporting connection with the first door, wherein the detector device is operative to sense thickness of sheets moved in the first direction from the second storage area.
- 19. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the first door includes at least one first aperture disposed in the first direction from the sheet thickness detector, whereby an engaging member is enabled to extend through the first door into the first storage area to engage sheets therein.
- 20. The apparatus according to claim 19 and further comprising a second door movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister and overlying the second storage area, and wherein the second door includes a second aperture, whereby an engaging member is enabled to extend through the second door into the second storage area to engage sheets therein.
- 21. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the first door includes an outer surface, and wherein the outer surface of the first door includes at least one outward extending projection, wherein the projection is elongated generally along the first direction.
- 22. The apparatus according to claim 19 wherein the first door includes an outer surface, and wherein the outer surface of the first door includes at least one outward extending projection, and wherein the projection is elongated generally along the first direction and is in aligned relation with the first aperture.
- 23. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the first door includes an inner surface, and wherein the inner surface includes at least one recess, and further comprising a first finger, wherein the first finger is movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister, and wherein the first finger is movable in the recess between a first position overlying the first storage area, whereby in the first position the first finger is enabled to engage a top of a first stack of sheets in the first storage area, and a second position wherein the first finger does not overlie the first storage area.
- 24. The apparatus according to claim 23 wherein the first finger moves generally parallel to the first direction as the first finger moves between the first and second positions.
- 25. The apparatus according to claim 23 wherein the inner surface of the first door includes a second recess, and further comprising a second finger movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister, and wherein the second finger is movable in the second recess between a third position overlying the first storage area, whereby in the third position the second finger is enabled to engage a top of the first stack of sheets in the first storage area, and a fourth position wherein the second finger does not overlie the first storage area.
- 26. The apparatus according to claim 25 wherein the second finger is disposed generally in the first direction from the second finger.
- 27. The apparatus according to claim 26 and further comprising a plurality of first fingers and a plurality of second fingers, wherein the first fingers are generally aligned with one another in a direction generally transverse to the first direction, and wherein the second fingers are generally aligned with one another in a direction generally transverse to the first direction, and wherein each of the first and second fingers are movable in recesses that extend in the inner surface of the first door, and wherein in the first position of the first fingers and the third position of the second fingers all of the first and second fingers overlie the first storage area, whereby the first stack of documents in the first storage area is retained therein when the first door is opened.
- 28. The apparatus according to claim 27 wherein the inner surface of the first door includes a plurality of recesses extending generally parallel to the first direction, and further comprising a plurality of projections extending between the recesses.
- 29. The apparatus according to claim 25 wherein the first and second fingers are operatively interconnected, wherein the first and second fingers move together between the first and third, and second and fourth positions respectively.
- 30. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the first door includes an outer surface, and wherein the outer surface includes a first outward extending projection, wherein the first outward extending projection is elongated generally along the first direction, and further comprising a first idler roll movably mounted in supporting connection with the door, and wherein the first idler roll is disposed transversely adjacent on a first side of the first projection.
- 31. The apparatus according to claim 30 and further comprising a second idler roll movably mounted in supporting connection with the first door, and wherein the second idler roll is disposed transversely adjacent and on an opposed side of the first projection.
- 32. The apparatus according to claim 30 wherein the first door is rotatably movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister adjacent a first end of the first door, wherein the first end is adjacent the second storage area, and wherein the first idler roll is adjacent a second end of the first door, wherein the second end is disposed in generally the first direction from the first end.
- 33. The apparatus according to claim 32 wherein the outer surface of the first door includes two outward extending projections, wherein each of the outward extending projections is elongated generally along the first direction and transversely disposed of the first sheet thickness detector device.
- 34. The apparatus according to claim 18 and further comprising a stripper device movably mounted on the canister adjacent and generally disposed in the first direction from the second storage area, wherein the stripper device is movable to engage sheets moved in the first direction from the second storage area, whereby the stripper device is enabled to be moved to engage a feed member.
- 35. The apparatus according to claim 34 wherein the stripper device is configured to restrict movement of sheets in engagement therewith in the first direction.
- 36. The apparatus according to claim 35 wherein the stripper device readily enables sheets to move in engagement therewith in a direction opposed of the first direction.
- 37. The apparatus according to claim 36 wherein the stripper device includes a wheel rotatable in a first rotational direction and generally not rotatable in an opposed rotational direction.
- 38. The apparatus according to claim 18 and further comprising a take away device in movably mounted supporting connection with the canister, wherein the take away device is disposed along the first direction and intermediate the second storage area and the sheet thickness detector device, whereby the take away device is enabled to engage sheets moved in the first direction from the second storage area.
- 39. The apparatus according to claim 34 and further comprising a pair of take away devices, wherein the take away devices are mounted on opposed transverse sides of the stripper device, and wherein each of the take away devices is movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister, and wherein each of the take away devices is engageable with sheets moved in the first direction from the second area.
- 40. The apparatus according to claim 39 wherein the take away devices include take away rolls, wherein the take away rolls are movably rotationally mounted relative to the canister.
- 41. The apparatus according to claim 39 wherein the second storage area includes a second door overlying the second storage area, and wherein the second door is movably mounted in supporting connection with the canister, and wherein the stripper device and the take away devices are disposed intermediate of the first and second storage areas, and wherein the second door is movable in a second direction generally transverse of the first direction adjacent the stripper device, wherein moving the door along the second direction enables sheets to move from the second storage area, and wherein the stripper device is movable in generally the second direction independently of the take away devices.
- 42. The apparatus according to claim 23 wherein the first storage area is bounded at a side opposed of the inner surface of the first door by a push plate, whereby the first stack of documents is supported on the push plate.
- 43. The apparatus according to claim 42 and further comprising a spring, wherein the spring is operative to bias the push plate toward the inner surface of the first door.
- 44. The apparatus according to claim 18 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted on the automated banking machine, and further comprising a cooperating thickness detector device in supporting connection with the banking machine, and wherein when the canister is in operative connection with the banking machine the cooperative thickness detector device is in operative connection with the sheet thickness detector device on the canister.
- 45. The apparatus according to claim 44 wherein at least one of either the cooperative thickness detector device or the sheet thickness detector device includes an emitter, and the other of the cooperative thickness detector device or the sheet thickness detector device includes a receiver.
- 46. The apparatus according to claim 19 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted on the automated banking machine, and wherein the automated banking machine includes a first engaging member movably mounted in supporting connection with the machine, and wherein in an operative position of the canister on the machine the first engaging member extends through the first aperture into the first storage area.
- 47. The apparatus according to claim 20 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted on the automated banking machine, and wherein the automated banking machine includes a first engaging member movably mounted in supporting connection with the automated banking machine, and a second engaging member movably mounted in supporting connection with the automated banking machine, and wherein in an operative position of the canister on the machine the first engaging member extends through the first aperture to the first storage area and the second engaging member extends through the second aperture to the second storage area.
- 48. The apparatus according to claim 46 wherein the first engaging member is rotationally mounted relative to the machine and has a circumference of variable radius.
- 49. The apparatus according to claim 48 wherein the first door comprises a plurality of first apertures and wherein the machine has supported thereon a plurality of first engaging members, wherein the first engaging members are operatively connected and move in generally coordinated relation into the first apertures.
- 50. The apparatus according to claim 21 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted in the automated banking machine, and further comprising a first movable belt flight, wherein the first movable belt flight extends generally along the first direction and adjacent to the first door in an operative position of the canister on the machine, and wherein the first belt flight is disposed adjacent on a first transverse side of the outward extending projection, wherein the first belt flight is positioned relative to the projection such that a sheet extending between the projection and the first belt flight is movable in engagement with the first belt flight as the first belt flight moves along the first direction.
- 51. The apparatus according to claim 50 wherein the machine further comprises a second movable belt flight, wherein the second movable belt flight extends generally along the first direction and adjacent the first door in the operative position of the canister on the machine, and wherein the second belt flight is disposed on an opposed transverse side of the outward extending projection relative to the first belt flight such that a sheet extending between the projection and the first and second belt flights is movable in engagement with the first and second belt flights and the projection.
- 52. The apparatus according to claim 51 and further comprising a drive and a control system housed in the machine, wherein the drive is in operative connection with the first belt flight and the control system, wherein the control system is in operative connection with the drive, wherein the control system is operative to control the drive to move sheets in the first direction from the second storage area.
- 53. The apparatus according to claim 50 and further comprising an idler roll in supporting movable connection with the first door, and wherein the idler roll is engaged with the first belt flight.
- 54. The apparatus according to claim 34 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted on the automated banking machine, and further comprising a feed member in movable supporting connection with the machine, wherein in an operative position of the canister on the machine the feed member is in generally abutting opposed relation with the stripper device.
- 55. The apparatus according to claim 34 and further comprising an automated banking machine, wherein the canister is removably mounted on the automated banking machine, and further comprising a first sheet engaging member disposed on a first transverse side of the stripper device and a second sheet engaging member disposed on an opposed transverse side of the stripper device, and further comprising a drive, wherein the drive is operative to move the first and second sheet engaging members, wherein the first and second sheet engaging members are configured to move a sheet in engagement therewith past the stripper member.
- 56. The apparatus according to claim 55 and further comprising a feed member disposed transversely intermediate of the first and second sheet engaging members, wherein the feed member is in operative connection with the first and second sheet engaging members and is operative to move therewith, and wherein in the operative position of the canister in the machine the stripper device is in generally opposed abutting relation with the feed member.
- 57. The apparatus according to claim 56 and further comprising a pair of take away devices in movably mounted supporting connection with the canister, wherein each one of the take away devices is movable in operatively engaged relation with one of the sheet engaging members when the canister is in the operative position in the machine.
- 58. The apparatus according to claim 57 wherein each sheet engaging member includes a transversely inner circumferential portion and a transversely outer circumferential portion, wherein each take away device is engaged with one of the transversely outer circumferential portions.
- 59. The apparatus according to claim 58 wherein each inner circumferential portion includes a high friction segment, wherein each high friction segment is disposed transversely intermediate of each take away device and the feed member.
- 60. The apparatus according to claim 57 and further comprising means for moving the stripper device relative to the canister, wherein the stripper device is operative to move between a position in abutting adjacent relation to the feed member, and a further position disposed sufficiently away from the feed member such that a sheet moving between the sheet engaging members and the take away device is not in engagement with the stripper device.
- 61. The apparatus according to claim 50 and further comprising a remote transport in the machine wherein the remote transport extends generally perpendicular to the first belt flight, and wherein the first belt flight extends adjacent the remote transport at a first intersection, and further comprising a first media gate adjacent the first intersection, wherein the first media gate is operative to direct sheets moving in engagement with the first belt to the remote transport.
- 62. The apparatus according to claim 61 wherein the first media gate is selectively operative to direct sheets moving in the remote transport to engage the first belt flight.
- 63. The apparatus according to claim 62 and further comprising a second canister removably mounted on the automated banking machine, the second canister including a plurality of storage areas and a second belt flight extending in supporting connection with the machine adjacent the second canister, wherein the second belt flight extends generally perpendicular to the remote transport, and wherein the second belt flight extends adjacent the second transport at a second intersection, and further comprising a second media gate adjacent the second intersection, wherein the second media gate is selectively operative to direct sheets moving in engagement with the second belt flight to the remote transport and vice versa.
- 64. The apparatus according to claim 61 wherein the first media gate is selectively operative to direct sheets moving in the remote transport to either move through the first intersection and continue in the remote transport or to direct sheets moving in the remote transport to engage the first belt flight.
- 65. Apparatus compising:
- a removable canister incling at least one storage location, wherein the storage location is adapted to store a stack of sheets;
- a movable first door in rotatably mounted connection with the canister, wherein the first door overlies the storage location;
- a sheet moving member adjacent the first door, wherein the sheet moving member is adapted to move sheets along a sheet path;
- a sheet drive in operative connection with the sheet moving member, wherein the sheet drive is operative to move the sheet moving member;
- wherein the first door is selectively operative to move between an open position wherein the first storage location is in operative connection with the sheet path, and a second position wherein the first storage location is not in operative connection with the sheet path, whereby when the first door is in the second position the door prevents sheets from entering and leaving the storage location.
- 66. The apparatus according to claim 65 wherein the sheet moving device comprises a first belt flight, and wherein the first door has a first outer surface, and wherein the sheet path includes the outer surface of the door, and wherein in the closed position of the door sheets move past the first storage location in the sheet path in supporting connection with the first outer surface of the first door.
- 67. The apparatus according to claim 65 wherein the canister includes a plurality of storage locations, and further comprising a plurality of doors, wherein each of the doors is in movably supporting connection with the canister and each door overlies a respective single storage location, and further comprising a door moving mechanism for selectively opening and closing each of the doors, and wherein each of the doors includes an outer surface, and wherein the sheet path is bounded by the plurality of outer surfaces of the doors, wherein when a door is opened the storage area which the open door overlies is connected to the sheet path.
- 68. The apparatus according to claim 67 wherein the first door includes a sheet thickness detector device in supporting connection therewith, wherein the sheet thickness detector device is disposed in a sheet path in a first direction relative to a second door, wherein the second door overlies a second storage location, the second storage location disposed immediately adjacent to the first storage location in the sheet path, and further comprising a control system in operative connection with the sheet thickness detector device and the sheet moving device, wherein the sheet thickness detector device is operative to sense thickness of a picked sheet moving from the second storage area into the sheet path, and wherein the control system is operative to cause the sheet moving device to return the sheet to the second storage location responsive to the thickness detector device sensing the picked sheet is greater than a predetermined thickness.
- 69. Apparatus comprising:
- a removable canister including at least one storage location, wherein the storage location is adapted to store a stack of sheets;
- a fire door in supporting connection with the canister, wherein the first door overlies the storae location;
- a sheet moving member adjacent the first door, wherein the sheet moving member is adapted to move sheets along a sheet path;
- a sheet drive in operative connection with the sheet moving member, wherein the sheet drive is operative to move the sheet moving member;
- wherein the first door is selectively operative to move between an open position wherein the first storage location is in operative connection with the sheet path and a second position wherein the first storage location is not in operative connection with the sheet path, whereby when the first door is in the second position sheets are prevented from entering and the location;
- a first movable member in supporting connection with the canister, wherein the first movable member is movable between a first position wherein the first movable member extends in overlying relation of the first storage locaton, and a second position wherein the first movable member does not overlie the first storage location, wherein in the first position of the first movable member and in the closed position of the first door the door overlies the first movable member, and
- a first member moving drive, wherein the first member moving drive is selectively operative to move the first movable member between the first and second positions, wherein in the first position of the first movable member and in the open position of the first door sheets are enabled to extend between the first movable member and the door.
- 70. The apparatus according to claim 69 wherein the first door includes an inner surface, and wherein the inner surface includes a recess, and wherein in the closed position of the first door the first movable member extends in the recess and is movable therein between the first and second positions.
- 71. The apparatus according to claim 69 and further comprising a second movable member, the second movable member mounted in supporting connection with the canister, wherein the second movable member is movable between a third position wherein the third movable member overlies the first storage location at a generally opposed side from the first movable member when the first movable member overlies the first storage location in the first position, and a fourth position wherein the second movable member does not overlie the first storage area, wherein in the third position of the second movable member and in the closed position of the first door, the first door overlies the second movable member, and further comprising a second movable member drive wherein the second movable member drive is operative to move the second movable member between the third and fourth positions, and wherein in the third position of the second movable member and the open position of the door a sheet is enabled to extend between the first and second movable members and the door.
- 72. The apparatus according to claim 69 wherein when the first movable member is moved to the second position and the door is moved from the open to the closed position, sheets are moved by operative engagement with the door to a position underlying the first movable member when the first movable member is in the first position.
- 73. The apparatus according to claim 71 wherein the first door includes a first inner surface, and wherein the first inner surface includes a first recess portion and a second recess portion, and wherein in the closed position of the first door the first movable member is movable between the first and second positions while extending in the first recess portion and the second movable member is movable between the third and fourth positions by extending in the second recess portion.
- 74. The apparatus according to claim 70 and further comprising a first pusher plate bounding the first storage location at a side of the first storage location opposed to the first door, and a spring in operative connection with the pusher plate, wherein the spring biases the pusher plate towards the first door.
- 75. The apparatus according to claim 70 wherein the first door comprises a first aperture, and further comprising:
- an engaging member, wherein the engaging member is selectively movable to extend through the first aperture to the first storage area;
- an engaging member drive wherein the engaging member drive is selectively operative to move the engaging member; and
- a control system in operative connection with the engaging member drive, the first member moving drive and the first door moving drive, wherein the control system is operative to move the first movable member to the second position to move the first door to the open position and to move the engaging member to extend in the first storage location and to move in generally a first direction, whereby sheets in the first storage location are enabled to be moved therefrom in the first direction in engagement with the engaging member.
- 76. The apparatus according to claim 75 and further comprising:
- a feed member adjacent and disposed in the first direction from the first storage location;
- a feed member drive in operative connection with the feed member and operative to move the feed member in generally the first direction, wherein the feed member drive is in operative connection with the control system;
- a stripper member, wherein the stripper member is positioned in generally opposed abutting relation of the feed member; and
- wherein the control system is operative to move the feed member in generally the first direction in coordinated relation with the engaging member, wherein the feed member and stripper member are operative to enable only a single sheet to move from the stack.
- 77. The apparatus according to claim 76 and further comprising:
- a stripper device moving drive in operative connection with the control system, wherein the stripper device moving drive is operative to selectively move the stripper device between a stripping position adjacent the feed member and a position disposed of the feed member; and
- wherein the control system is operative to move the feed member in a direction opposed of the first direction, to move the stripper device to the disposed position, to move the first movable member to the first position and to move the first door to the open position, whereby sheets are enabled to be moved into the first storage location in engagement with the feed device.
- 78. Apparatus comprising:
- a removable canister including at least one storage location, wherein the storage location is adapted to store a stack of sheet;
- a movable door in rotatably mounted connection with the canister, wherein the door overlies the storage location;
- a sheet moving member adjacent the door, wherein the sheet moving member is adapted to move sheets along a sheet path;
- wherein the door has an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface is adapted to face the storage location, and wherein the outer surface is adapted to engage sheets moving along the sheet path;
- wherein the door is selectively operative to move between an open position wherein the storage location is in operative connection with the sheet path, and a closed position wherein the storage location is not in operative connection with the sheet path.
