DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 4 thereof, a new belt mounted hat clip embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
The present invention, as designated as numeral 10, includes a vertically oriented rear portion 12 having a rectangular configuration with a front face, a rear face and a periphery. The periphery is defined by a pair of long vertical side edges and a pair of short horizontal top and bottom edges. As shown in FIG. 2, the rear portion has a rectangular foam pad 14 mounted on the front face along the bottom edge thereof.
Various coupling mechanisms are included for being removably secured to a belt of the user. A slot 16 is formed between the side edges adjacent to the top edge of the rear portion for allowing the belt to be passed therethrough. A rectangular tab 18 is integrally coupled to the top edge of the rear portion and extending upwardly therefrom in coplanar relationship with the front face. Such tab has an aperture 20 formed therein for allowing the rear portion to be hung on a post. A belt clip 22 is provided including a horizontal portion integrally coupled to the rear face of the rear portion adjacent the top edge. Integrally coupled to the horizontal portion is a generally vertical portion which extends downwardly therefrom for being removably secured to the belt. Preferably, the vertical portion extends downwardly a distance of about 1/4 the length of the rear portion.
Further provided is a front portion 24. A central extent of the front portion is pivotally coupled to a central extent of the side edges of the rear portion. Such pivotal coupling is accomplished by way of a fork 26 formed on the front portion, an unillustrated lateral bore formed in the rear portion and a pivot rod 28 rotatably coupled therebetween. The front portion includes an upper extent with a handle 30 extending upwardly and outwardly from the side edges. A lower extent 31 of the front portion has a generally U-shaped vertical cross-section taken along a plane perpendicular with the rear portion. A bottom end of the lower extent has a rectangular foam pad 32 coupled thereto. In the preferred embodiment, a free face of foam pad 14 has a convex surface and the same of foam pad 32 has a concave surface to conform to a visor of the hat, as will soon become apparent.
During use, the front portion has a rest orientation with the foam pads abutting each other for gripping a visor of a hat. In such orientation, the handle forms a 45 degree angle with the rear portion. Further, the U-shaped configuration of the lower extent of the front portion is critical for allowing a crest of the hat to pass therethrough unharmed. The front portion further has a biased orientation upon the depression of the handle with the foam pads distanced from each other for allowing the hat to be removed. The front portion is biased in the present orientation due to an unillustrated spring mounted between the rear and front portions. It should be noted that the front and rear portions may be constructed from any one of various colors.
As to a further discussion of the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
