Claims
- 1. A .beta.-aminonitrile of the formula I ##STR5## wherein, R.sup.1 is a polybutyl or polyisobutyl radical having a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 5000 is derived from isobutene and 0-30% by weight of n-butene, and
- R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, independently of one another, are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, or R.sup.2 or R.sup.4 is phenyl.
- 2. A .beta.-aminonitrile as defined in claim 1, wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each hydrogen and R.sup.4 is methyl.
- 3. A .beta.-aminonitrile as defined in claim 1, wherein the polybutyl or polyisobutyl radical has a number average molecular weight of from 800 to 1500.
- 4. A process for the preparation of a .beta.-aminonitrile of the formula I as defined in claim 1, wherein an amine of the formula III
- R.sup.1 --CH.sub.2 --NH.sub.2 III
- is reacted with a nitrile of the formula IV ##STR6## in the presence or absence of a catalyst, R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 having the meanings stated in claim 1.
- 5. A lubricant comprising a dispersant-effective amount of a .beta.-aminonitrile of formula I as defined in claim 1.
