Claims
- 1. In combination with a transport cart, supported for travel into a van body having a floor, to join like carts positioned in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows leaving an aisle between them in the van body, the cart having a bottom support on which at least one product configuration is supported on a pallet at a level above said van floor and having an open front side to permit the unloading of said pallet and product from said bottom support, the improvement comprising:
a. a disc dependent from said pallet; and b. a hand truck having a partially bifurcated nose plate defining disc-embracing forwardly projecting arms for engaging under said pallet and enabling the removal of said pallet and product from the cart.
- 2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said nose plate has front and rear edges and said arms terminate at a spaced distance forwardly from said rear edge of said nose plate to leave a plate surface between the arms and rear edge of the nose plate.
- 3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said disc is supported by the van floor, is circular, and is substantially laterally centrally positioned on said pallet and said arms are joined by a plate surface portion conforming to the curvature of said disc.
- 4. The combination of claim 1 wherein said bottom support on said cart comprises a cart bottom with a front and rear edge which tilts downwardly from its front edge to its rear edge.
- 5. A series of transport arts in combination with a transport vehicle having side walls, a floor, and an openable rear; said series of transport carts being positioned on motive supports in side by side relation in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows within said van, said carts having side closures, a rear side, and an open front side facing laterally toward a like cart in an opposite row; said carts also having upwardly projecting rear side lock members with first lock fittings; longitudinally spaced track sections mounted fixedly on said van side walls in spaced relation to receive and capture said lock members on said carts; and second lock fittings associated with said track sections for disengageably interfitting with said first fittings.
- 6. The cart of claim 5 wherein said lock members comprise upwardly projecting rear post portions, and said first fittings comprise sockets for vertically receiving locking pins incorporated with said track section lock fittings.
- 7. The combination of claim 5 wherein said track sections comprise fore to aft extending track parts open at their ends and bottoms to provide inverted capture channels spaced longitudinally along said van side walls for capturing said upwardly extending cart lock members within said track sections.
- 8. The combination of claim 5 wherein said cart rear sides have rear posts and said lock members comprise upwardly projecting portions of said rear posts which extend above said rear wall, and said track parts are longitudinally spaced along the side walls of said van vehicle at intervals to receive said post portions, and comprise a vertical plate portion for attachment to the wall of the van, a mid-portion extending therefrom over said post portions, and a laterally extending portion overlying said post portions.
- 9. The combination of claim 8 wherein said laterally extending portion is removably connected to the mid-portion.
- 10. The combination of claim 9 further comprising a pivot, wherein the laterally extending portion may rotate relative to said vertical plate portion about the pivot.
- 11. The combination of claim 10 further comprising a pin, wherein when the pin is installed, the laterally extending portion is restrained from rotation about said pivot.
- 12. The combination of claim 5 wherein said cart rear sides have rear posts connected by a rear wall and said lock members comprise upwardly projecting portions of said rear posts which extend above said rear wall, and said track parts are longitudinally spaced along the side wails of said van vehicle at intervals to receive said post portions, and comprise
- 13. The combination of claim 12 wherein said first fittings comprise sockets in the upper ends of said post portions and said second fittings comprise lock pins connecting operably with said track parts for reception in said post part sockets.
- 14. The combination of claim 13 wherein said mid portions of the track parts have openings above said post portion sockets for receiving and passing said lock pins.
- 15. The combination of claim 5 wherein a clipboard is secured to the rear walls of said carts between said lock members.
- 16. In a stacked product transport cart, wheel supported for travel into a van body having a floor, to join like carts positioned in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows leaving an aisle between them in the van body, the cart having bottom supports on which stacks of product are to be supported at a level above said van floor, side and rear walls with interior sides, and open front sides to permit the unloading of product from said bottom supports; the improvement comprising:
a. indentations provided in said walls extending generally laterally across said walls on said interior sides thereof; b. elongate tracks with multiple laterally spaced securing parts mounted within said indentations; and c. a tarp having vertical edges disengageably secured to one of said track securing parts on one of said walls to wrap about products within the cart from the open front side thereof and disengageably secure to a securing part on a track on another of side walls.
- 17. The cart of claim 16 wherein said tarp has hook-like fittings on its said vertical edges for interlocking with said track securing parts.
- 18. The cart of claim 17 wherein said one of said walls is a side wall and said another of said walls is a rear wall.
- 19. The cart of claim 18 wherein said rear wall has an exterior side with a securing fitting thereon for receiving one of said hook-like fittings on said tarp when the tarp is folded to a stowed inoperative position in which it extends exteriorly alongside one of the side walls and rear wall of said cart.
- 20. A method of unloading stacked products from transport carts positioned in side by side relation in fore to aft extending spaced apart rows disposed longitudinally along a delivery van to leave an aisle between them, the carts having wheel supported upright frames with bottom supports for the products disposed at a level above the floor of the van, and open fronts from which said products can be removed; comprising:
a. providing pallets on said bottom supports on which said product stacks are supported; the pallets having dependent discs; and b. providing a hand truck having a nose plate with disc-embracing arms and piloting it into load receiving position under one of said pallets on a cart; and c. moving said hand truck and nose plate to remove said pallet and product stack from said cart.
- 21. A method of positioning and securing a product transport cart, supported for travel on wheels into a van body having a floor, side walls, a front end and an openable rear end, to join like carts positioned in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows leaving an aisle between them; the van side walls having fore to aft spaced channel shaped track sections with open ends mounted along the side walls and lock fittings associated with said track sections; and the carts having rear corner post portions projecting upwardly therefrom which have complementary lock fittings, comprising the steps of:
a. moving said cart to a position in which one of said post portions is captured in a first track section also capturing the aft post portion of a preceding cart b. jockeying said cart to position the other post portion in a second track section spaced aft of said first track section; and c. interlocking the lock fittings on the post portions of said cart with the lock fittings associated with such first and second track sections.
- 22. The method of claim 21 wherein the post portions have upper ends with sockets, the track sections have vertical aligning and interlocking openings, and said lock fittings associated with the track sections include lock pins; and the method includes the step of inserting the lock pins through said track openings and into said post sockets.
- 23. In combination with a transport cart, supported for positioning into a van body having a floor, to join like carts positioned in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows leaving an aisle between them in the van body, the cart having a bottom support on which at least one product configuration is supported on a pallet at a level above said van floor and having an open front side to permit the unloading of said pallet and product from said bottom support; the improvement comprising:
a tarp connected to the cart wherein at least a portion of the tarp is disengageable from the cart to provide access within the cart.
- 24. The combination of claim 23 wherein the tarp further comprises at least one see-through panel.
- 25. The combination of claim 24 further comprising at least one batten pocket connected to the tarp and at least one batten located therein.
- 26. In a transport cart, supported for travel into a van body having a floor, to join like carts positioned in fore to aft extending laterally spaced rows leaving an aisle between them in the an body, the cart having a bottom support on which stacks of product are to be supported at a level above said van floor and an open front side to permit the unloading of product from said bottom support; the improvement comprising:
a deck movable from a stowed retracted position to an extended generally horizontal aisleway-forming operative position in which laterally aligned opposed like carts in the rows can form a false floor aisleway at substantially the level of said cart bottom supports.
- 27. The combination of claim 22 further comprising a ramp located at an a last pair of opposed like carts.
- 28. In combination with a trailer comprising a floor, sidewalls and a front wall, a plurality of bays located along said sidewalls in a substantially opposed relationship from one another about an aisle:
a. a plurality of mini pallet containers having bottom supports and dependent discs; and b. a hand truck having a nose plate with disc-embracing arms.
- 29. The combination of claim 28 wherein the bays are separated from one another by a folding curtain.
- 30. The combination of claim 28 further comprising carts having sidewalls a back wall and a floor; and at least a portion of said plurality of mini pallet containers are located on the floor of said carts.
- 31. The combination of claim 30 wherein the aisle terminates within the trailer and a bulk pallet area is located between the aisle a rear portion of the trailer.
- 32. The combination of claim 30 wherein the aisle terminates at a ramp.

Typically, the vehicle moves the carts from a manufacturing facility or distribution center to a retailer.
