Claims
- 1 A stent for placement in a bifurcated body lumen, said stent comprising:
a tubular body defining a lumen therethrough and having a side hole, said body having a first portion with a first wall mass and a second portion with a second wall mass, wherein said first wall mass is less than said second wall mass.
- 2. The stent as in claim 1 wherein said first wall mass is about one-half said second wall mass.
- 3. The stent as in claim 1 wherein said first portion has a first cell density and said second portion has a second cell density, wherein said first cell density is less than said second cell density.
- 4. The stent as in claim 3 wherein said first cell density is about one half said second cell density.
- 5. The stent as in claim 1 wherein said first portion comprises a first plurality of struts and said second portion comprises a second plurality of struts, at least some of said first plurality of struts having a smaller cross-sectional area than said second plurality of struts.
- 6. The stent as in claim 1 wherein said first portion comprises a first plurality of struts and said second portion comprises a second plurality of struts, said second plurality of struts defining a greater cell density than said first plurality of struts.
- 7. The stent as in claim 1 wherein said first portion comprises said side hole.
- 8. The stent as in claim I wherein said first portion and said second portion have first and second wall thickness, respectively, said first wall thickness being less than said second wall thickness.
- 9. The stent as in claim 8 wherein said first wall thickness is about one-half said second wall thickness.
- 10. A stent system for placement in a bifurcated body lumen having a main vessel and first and second branch vessels, said system comprising:
a first tubular stent body having a first portion and a second portion, said first stent body having a side hole; and a second tubular stent body having a first portion and a second portion, said second stent body having a side hole; wherein said first stent body first portion is disposed within and generally coaxially aligned with said second stent body first portion, and said first stent body second portion extends through said side hole of said second stent body.
- 11. The stent system as in claim 10 wherein said combined first portions comprise about a same mass as one of said second portions.
- 12. The stent system as in claim 10 wherein said combined first portions comprise a cell density that is about equal to a cell density of one of said second portions.
- 13. The stent system as in claim 10 wherein said combined first portions have a wall thickness that is about equal to a wall thickness of one of said second portions.
- 14. The stent system as in claim 10 wherein said combined first portions are adapted to be positioned in said main vessel, said first stent body second portion is adapted to be positioned in said first branch vessel and said second stent body second portion is adapted to be positioned in said second branch vessel.
- 15. A method for deploying a stent in a bifurcated body lumen having a main vessel and first and second branch vessels, said method comprising:
providing first and second tubular stent bodies each having a first portion, a second portion, and a side hole; positioning said first stent body within said bifurcated lumen so that said first portion is positioned within said main vessel and said second portion is positioned within said first branch vessel, said positioning further comprising alignment of said first stent body side hole with an ostium of said second branch vessel; expanding said first stent body. positioning said second stent body so that said first portion is generally aligned with and within said first stent body first portion in said main vessel, and said second portion extends through said first stent body side hole and into said second branch vessel, said positioning further comprising alignment of said second stent body side hole with an ostium of said first branch vessel; and expanding said second stent body.
- 16. The method of claim 15 wherein said expanding said first stent body is performed prior to said positioning said second stent body.
- 17. The method of claim 15 wherein said combined first portions have about a same mass as one of said second portions.
- 18. The method of claim 15 wherein said combined first portions have about a same cell density as one of said second portions.
- 19. The method of claim 15 wherein said first and second stent bodies comprise a metal.
- 20. A kit comprising:
a stent as in claim 1; and instructions for use setting forth a method for positioning said stent in a bifurcated body lumen having a main vessel and first and second branch vessels.
