Claims
- 1. A fluorinated biopolymer comprising a compound of any of the Formulas I-VIII:
- 2. A fluorinated biopolymer comprising a compound of any of Formulas IX and XII
- 3. A fluorinated biopolymer of the Formula XIII
- 4. A fluorinated biopolymer comprising a compound of any of Formulas XIV-XX
- 5. The fluorinated biopolymer, according to claim 1, which is also paramagnetic.
- 6. The fluorinated biopolymer of any of claim 1, wherein X is fluoroalkyl, fluoroaryl, fluoroacyl, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroaryl, perfluoroacyl, perfluoropolymer, fluoroamine, fluorocarbamate, fluorotriazine, fluorosulfonylalkyl derivatives, CF2C1, SO2[CF2]xCF3, F, CF3, COCxFy, CxFyHz, ([CH2]mO)x(CH2CF2O)y(CF2CF2O)z(CF2)2CF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, CH2C(OH)CxFyHz, CxFyHzOp, COCxFyHz, OCH2CxFz[CxFzO]mF, CH2C(CH3)CO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, CH2(CF2O]n(CF2CF2O)y(CF2O)xCF2CH2OH, COCF(CF3)-[CF(CF3)CF2O]mF, NHCxFyHzOp, CH2CF2O[CF2CF2O]m(CF2OCF2CH2OH, COCxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCF2O[CF2CF2O]nCF2OCF2CO2H, ([CH2]mO)x(CH2C F2O)y(CF2CF2O)zCF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, N[CxFyHz]p, CxHzCO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCxFy[CpFzO]mF, and m, x, p, y, z are integers from 1 to 150 inclusive.
- 7. A fluorinated biopolymer comprising a polymeric compound selected from the group consisting of:

- 8. A method of improving the effectiveness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which comprises:
a. administering an effective amount of one or more fluorinated and/or paramagnetic polymers of claims 1-4 to a patient; b. subjecting the patient to an MRI of a tissue/organ where the administered polymer is expected to accumulate; and c. evaluating the tissue/organ from the MRI images obtained.

The fluorinated biopolymer of any of claim 2, wherein X is fluoroalkyl, fluoroaryl, fluoroacyl, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroaryl, perfluoroacyl, perfluoropolymer, fluoroamine, fluorocarbamate, fluorotriazine, fluorosulfonylalkyl derivatives, CF2C1, SO2[CF2]xCF3, F, CF3, COCxFy, CxFyHz, ([CH]mO)x(CH2CF2O)y(CF2CF2O)z(CF2)2CF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, CH2C(OH)CxFyHz, CxFyHzOp, COCxFyHz, OCH2CxFz[CxFzO]mF, CH2C(CH3)CO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, CH2(CF2O)x(CF2CF2O)y(CF2O)zCF2CH2OH, COCF(CF3)-[CF(CF3)CF2O]mF, NHCxFyHzOp, CH2CF2O[CF2CF2O]m(CF2OCF2CH2OH, COCxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCF2O[CF2CF2O]nCF2OCF2CO2H, ([CH2]mO)x(CH2CF2O)y(CF2CF2O)zCF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, N[CxFyHz]p, CxHzCO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCxFy[CpFzO]mF, and m, x, p, y, z are integers from 1 to 150 inclusive.

The fluorinated biopolymer of any of claim 3, wherein X is fluoroalkyl, fluoroaryl, fluoroacyl, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroaryl, perfluoroacyl, perfluoropolymer, fluoroamine, fluorocarbamate, fluorotriazine, fluorosulfonylalkyl derivatives, CF2Cl, SO2[CF2]xCF3, F, CF3, COCxFy, CxFyHz, ([CH2]mO)x(CH2CF2O)y(CF2CF2O)z(CF2)2CF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, CH2C(OH)CxFyHz, CxFyHzOp, COCxFyHz, OCH2CxFz[CxFzO]mF, CH2C(CH3)CO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, CH2(CF2O)x(CF2CF2O)y(CF2O)zCF2CH2OH, COCF(CF3)-[CF(CF3)CF2O]mF, NHCxFyHzOp, CH2CF2O[CF2CF2O]m(CF2OCF2CH2OH, COCxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCF2O[CF2CF2O]nCF2OCF2CO2H, ([CH2]mO)x(CH2CF2O)y(CF2CF2O)zCF2CH2O(CH2)pOH, N[CxFyHz]p, CxHzCO2CxHz(CF2)mCF3, COCxFy[CpFzO]mF, and m, x, p, y, z are integers from 1 to 150 inclusive.
