Claims
- 1. A composite comprising a thermoplastic material and a thermoplastic rubber blend which is capable of adhering to said thermoplastic material, wherein said thermoplastic rubber blend comprises (i) at least one fictionalized and vulcanizable elastomer and (ii) at least one block copolymer present in a form of a matrix comprising polyether or amorphous polyester blocks, wherein the matrix comprises nodules of the elastomer (i) formed by vulcanization.
- 2. The composite of claim 1 wherein block copolymer (ii) comprises a rigid portion formed of polyamide, polyester, or polyurethane blocks and a flexible part formed of polyether or amorphous polyester blocks.
- 3. The composite of claim 2 wherein the thernoplastic material is selected from the group consisting of polyanrides, thermoplastic elastomers, containing polyamide blocks, thermoplastic elastomers containing polyester blocks, semicrystalline polyesters, polyurethanes, and poly(vinyl chlorides) and the thermoplastic rubber blend comprises(i) at least one elastomer functionalized with a member of the group consisting of carboxylic acid, carboxylic anhydride, carboxylate salt, carboxylate ester, epoxy, amino, and halo groups and (ii) at least one block copolymer comprising a rigid portion formed of polyurethane blocks and a flexible part formed of polyether or amorphous polyester blocks.
- 4. The composite of claim 3 wherein the thermoplastic rubber blend is obtained by a process of dynamic vulcanization of rubbers to produce a matrix of the block copolymer containing the vulcanized rubber nodules.
- 5. Footwear articles containing the composite of claim 3, wherein the thermoplastic material and the thermoplastic rubber blend are combined by a process selected from the group consisting of coinjection and overmolding.
- 6. Coextruded pipes containing the composite of claim 3, wherein the thermoplastic material and the thermoplastic rubber blend are combined by a process of coextrusion molding.
- 7. Conveyor belts containing the composite of claim 3.
- 8. A method for the manufacture of the composite of claim 1 which comprises combining the thermoplastic rubber blend and the thermoplastic material by a process selected from the group consisting of coinjection, overmolding, and coextrusion.
- 9. The composite of claim 1 wherein the thermoplastic material is selected from the group consisting of polyamides, thermoplastic elastomers containing polyamide blocks, thermoplastic elastomers containing polyester blocks, semicrystalline polyesters, polyurethanes, and poly(vinyl chlorides) and the thermoplastic rubber blend comprises(i) at least one elastomer functionalized with a member of the group consisting of carboxylic acid, carboxylic anhydride, carboxylate salt, carboxylate ester, epoxy, amino, and halo groups and (ii) at least one block copolymer comprising a rigid portion formed of polyurethane blocks and a flexible part formed of polyether or amorphous polyester blocks.
- 10. A composite comprising a thermoplastic material and a thermoplastic rubber blend which is capable of adhering to said thermoplastic material, wherein said thermoplastic rubber blend comprises (a) at least one functionalized and vulcanizable elastomer and (b) at least one block copolymer comprising polyether or amorphous polyester blocks, wherein the thermoplastic rubber blend is the product of a process which comprises mixing (i) a formulation comprising at least one finctionalized and vulcanizable elastomer, a vulcanizing agent, and, optionally, fillers and plasticizers and (ii) at least one block copolymer comprising polyether or amorphous polyester blocks, the mixing intimately dispersing elastomer (i) in molten block copolymer (ii) and being carried out at a temperature sufficient both to melt said block copolymer and to vulcanize said elastomer, said mixing being carried out for a period of time substantially less than that which would result in reaction of all of the functional groups in said functionalized elastomer.
- 11. An article of manufacture comprising a thermoplastic material and a thermoplastic rubber blend which is capable of adhering to said thermoplastic material, wherein said thermoplastic rubber blend comprises (i) at least one functionalized and vulcanizable elastomer and (ii) at least one block copolymer comprising polyether or amorphous polyester blocks, wherein the thermoplastic rubber blend forms a matrix of block copolymer and vulcanized rubber nodules, and the thermoplastic material and the thermoplastic rubber blend are combined by a process selected from the group consisting of conjection, overmolding and coextrusion molding.
