Claims
- 1. An abrasion resistant paste extruded tubular article comprising a major proportion by weight of fluorocarbon polymer resin, less than about 10% by weight of polyimide resin filler, and optionally, inorganic fillers, lubricants, pigments, and other modificants.
- 2. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises from about 2% to less than 10% by weight of the tubular article.
- 3. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises from about 3% to less than 10% by weight of the tubular article.
- 4. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises a thermoplastic polyimide.
- 5. The tubular article of claim 4 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises an aromatic polyimide.
- 6. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer resin comprises polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 7. The tubular article of claim 6 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer resin comprises fine powder polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 8. The tubular article of claim 7 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer resin has a particle size of from about 2 to about 50 microns.
- 9. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the wall thickness is less than 0.05 inches.
- 10. The tubular article of claim 1 wherein the wall thickness is less than 0.02 inches.
- 11. An abrasion resistant paste extruded tubular article consisting essentially of about 77% to about 98% by weight fluorocarbon polymer resin and from about 2% to about 10% by weight of polyimide resin filler.
- 12. The tubular article of claim 11 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises a thermoplastic polyimide.
- 13. The tubular article of claim 12 wherein the polyimide resin component comprises an aromatic polyimide.
- 15. The tubular article of claim 11 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer component comprises polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 16. The tubular article of claim 11 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer resin comprises fine powder polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 17. The tubular article of claim 16 wherein the fluorocarbon polymer resin has a particle size of from about 2 to about 50 microns.
- 18. The tubular article of claim 11 wherein the wall thickness is less than 0.05 inches.
- 19. The tubular article of claim 11 wherein the wall thickness is less than 0.02 inches.
- 20. A cable assembly comprising:
an elongated core for transmitting a force along a predetermined path; and means for guiding the core wherein said means comprises an abrasion resistant paste extruded tubular product having a low friction inner surface against which said core bears as it transmits the force along said predetermined path, said low friction surface consisting essentially of a major proportion of fine powder polytetrafluoroethylene and less than about 10% by weight thermoplastic aromatic polyimide filler.
