Claims
- 1. An add-in cartridge for insertion into a cartridge receptacle of an electronic device, the electronic device comprising a first plurality of circuit elements, said add-in cartridge comprising:
- a circuit board having a second plurality of circuit elements mounted thereon, said circuit board comprising a plurality of grounding pads formed on a surface thereof and connection means for electrically connecting said second plurality of circuit elements to the electronic device;
- a housing for accommodating said circuit board, said housing comprising:
- an opening, wherein said connection means extends through said opening for connecting said circuit board to the electronic device, said opening having first and second ends, and
- a conductive shielding layer arranged on at least an interior surface of said housing,
- wherein first and second ones of said plurality of grounding pads are arranged at the first and second ends, respectively, of said opening, and
- wherein a third one of said plurality of grounding pads is arranged between said first and second grounding pads to decrease a wavelength of electromagnetic radiation emitted through the opening, and
- wherein said conductive shielding layer is in electrical connection with each of said plurality of grounding pads.
- 2. The add-in cartridge of claim 1, wherein at least part of said housing comprises metallic material.
- 3. The add-in cartridge of claim 1, wherein one of said second plurality of circuit elements comprises a processor.
- 4. The add-in cartridge of claim 1, wherein said third grounding pad is arranged substantially halfway between said first and second grounding pads.
- 5. The add-in cartridge of claim 1, wherein said housing further comprises:
- a first housing segment; and
- a second housing segment arranged in mating relationship with said first housing segment, said second housing segment comprising a ridge member extending in a direction toward said first housing,
- wherein said conductive shielding layer is arranged on interior surfaces of said first housing segment, said second housing segment and said ridge member such that the said conductive shielding layer on said first housing segment is in electrical connection with said conductive shielding layer on said second housing segment, and
- wherein said plurality of grounding pads is in electrical connection with said conductive shielding layer of said second housing segment.
- 6. The add-in cartridge of claim 5, wherein said ridge member comprises an electrically conductive material.
- 7. The add-in cartridge of claim 5, wherein one of said first and second housing segments comprises plastic material and the other comprises metallic material.
- 8. The add-in cartridge of claim 5, further comprising:
- metallic heat dissipation material secured to an interior surface of said housing adjacent to a top surface of one of said second plurality of circuit elements; and
- heat transfer material disposed between and in contact with the heat dissipation material and the top surface of said one of said second plurality of circuit elements.
- 9. The add-in cartridge of claim 8 further comprising elastic means for biasing said one of said second plurality of circuit elements toward said heat dissipation material.
- 10. The add-in cartridge of claim 5, further comprising a coupling capacitor,
- wherein said circuit board further comprises a power source terminal, and
- wherein said coupling capacitor is arranged between a ground terminal of one of said second plurality of circuit elements and said power source terminal.
- 11. The add-in cartridge of claim 10, further comprising a choke coil, wherein said choke coil is arranged between said power source terminal and a power supply connector of one of said second plurality of circuit elements.
