Claims
- 1. A chemiluminescent compound of the formula (I): ##STR16## wherein Ar is an aryl group substituted with one to four groups independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl)amino, aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen;
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate;
- R.sup.1 is bicyclo[2.2.1]heptyl, optionally substituted with one to ten groups independently selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halogen and halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl or R.sup.1 when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula ##STR17## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen, and n is from one to three; and
- R.sup.2 is independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -arylalkyl, carboxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, hydroxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, aldehydo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, amino-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl and thiol-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl.
- 2. A test kit for determining the presence of an analyte which may be present in a test sample comprising:
- a container containing a chemiluminescent compound of the formula (I): ##STR18## wherein Ar is an aryl group substituted with one to four groups independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl)amino, aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen;
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate;
- R.sup.1 is independently selected from the group consisting of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptyl optionally substituted with one to ten groups independently selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halogen and halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl; or R.sup.1 when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula: ##STR19## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen, and n is from one to three; and
- R.sup.2 is independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -arylalkyl, carboxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, hydroxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, aldehydo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, amino-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl and thiol-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl.
- 3. The test kit of claim 2 wherein Ar in the compound of formula (I) is phenyl.
- 4. A test kit for determining the presence of an analyte which may be present in a test sample comprising:
- a container containing a chemiluminescent compound of formula (III): ##STR20## wherein R.sup.2 is independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -arylalkyl, carboxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, hydroxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, aldehydo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, amino-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl and thiol-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl;
- or wherein bicyclo[2.2.1]heptyl when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula: ##STR21## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen, and n is from one to three;
- R.sup.5 is one to four groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -dialkylamino and aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl; and
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate.
