Claims
- 1. A test kit for determining the presence of an analyte which may be present in a test sample comprising:
- a container containing a chemiluminescent compound of formula (III): ##STR15## wherein bicyclo[2.2.1]heptyl when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula: ##STR16## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, and halogen, and n is from one to three;
- R.sup.5 is one to four groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -dialkylamino and aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl; and
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate.
- 2. The test kit of claim 1 further comprising a container containing a means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal.
- 3. The test kit of claim 2 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is an enzyme and wherein said enzyme is selected from the group consisting of acid or alkaline phosphatase and a galactosidase.
- 4. The test kit of claim 2 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is a chemical and wherein said chemical is tetrabutylammonium fluoride.
- 5. A test kit for determining the presence of an analyte which may be present in a test sample comprising:
- a container containing a chemiluminescent compound of the formula (I): ##STR17## wherein Ar is an aryl group substituted with one to four groups independently selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl)amino, aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen;
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate;
- R.sup.1 when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula: ##STR18## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, and halogen, and n is from one to three.
- 6. A test kit for determining the presence of an analyte which may be present in a test sample comprising:
- container containing a chemiluminescent compound of formula (II): ##STR19## wherein R.sup.1 when taken with OR.sup.2 is a compound of formula: ##STR20## wherein R.sup.4 is from zero to nine groups independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl and halogen, and n is from one to three;
- R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylthio, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylamino, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl)amino, aryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl and halogen; and
- OX is a chemically labile group wherein the removal of X by an activating agent results in the formation of an aryl oxide intermediate.
- 7. The test kit of claim 6 wherein R.sup.3 in the compound of formula (II) is methyl or methoxy.
- 8. The test kit of claim 6 wherein the compound defined by formula (II) is selected from the group consisting of 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-methoxyspiro[1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-adamantane]; 4-(3-phosphate-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-methoxyspiro[1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-adamantane]; 4-(3-phosphate-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-methoxyspiro[1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-adamantane], tetra-ethylammonium salt; and 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-(hydroxy)butyloxyspiro[1,2-dioxetane-3,2'adamantane].
- 9. The test kit of claim 6 wherein the compound defined by formula (II) is selected from the group consisting of 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methylpehnyl)-4-methoxyspiro[1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-(1',7',7'-trimethyl bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane); 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-4methoxyspiro (1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-1',7',7'-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane); 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-(4-hydroxybutyloxy)spiro (1,2-dioxetane-3,2'-(1',7',7'-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane); and 4-(3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-methoxy)phenylspiro)-(4,1'-(epoxymethano)-1,2-dioxetane-3,2'- :(7',7'-dimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane).
- 10. The test kit of claim 5 further comprising a container containing a means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal.
- 11. The test kit of claim 10 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is an enzyme and wherein said enzyme is selected from the group consisting of acid or alkaline phosphatase and a galactosidase.
- 12. The test kit of claim 10 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is a chemical and wherein said chemical is tetrabutylammonium fluoride.
- 13. The test kit of claim 6 further comprising a container containing a means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal.
- 14. The test kit of claim 13 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is an enzyme and wherein said enzyme is selected from the group consisting of acid or alkaline phosphatase and a galactosidase.
- 15. The test kit of claim 14 wherein said means for generating a detectable chemiluminescent signal is a chemical and wherein said chemical is tetrabutylammonium fluoride.
