Claims
- 1. A compound of formula ##STR147## wherein R.sup.1 is a cyclo or polycycloalkyl hydrocarbon with from 0 to 4 substituents each independently selected from a straight or branched alkyl of from 1to 6 carbon atoms, halogen, CN, OR*, SR*, CO.sub.2 R*, CF.sub.3, NR.sup.5 R.sup.6, or (CH.sub.2).sub.n OR.sup.5 wherein R*, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are each independently hydrogen or a straight or branched alkyl of from 1 to about 6 carbon atoms; and
- Ar.sup.1 is phenyl or substituted phenyl.
- 2. A compound of formula ##STR148## wherein R.sup.1 is ##STR149## wherein W, X, Y and Z are each independently hydrogen, a straight or branched alkyl of from one to six carbon atoms, CF.sub.3, NR.sup.5 R.sup.6, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n CO.sub.2 R*, CN, F, Cl, Br, OR*, SR* wherein R*, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each independently hydrogen or a straight or branched alkyl of from 1 to about 6 carbon atoms and w is an integer of from 1 to 3: and
- Ar is
- 2- or 3-thienyl,
- 2- or 3-furanyl,
- 2-, 3-, or 4-pyridinyl, ##STR150## wherein E' and F are each independently hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, methyl, methoxy, trifluoromethyl, nitro, hydroxy, NH.sub.2, and OCF.sub.3.
- 3. A compound of formula ##STR151## wherein the R.sup.1 is polycycloalkyl a is selected from the group consisting of ##STR152## wherein W, X, Y, and Z are each independently hydrogen, a straight or branched alkyl of from one to six carbon atoms, CF.sub.3, NR.sup.5 R.sup.6, --(CH.sub.2).sub.n CO.sub.2 R*, CN, F, Cl, Br, OR*, SR*, wherein , R*, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are each independently hydrogen or a straight or branched alkyl of from 1to about 6 carbon atcs and w is an integer of from 1to 3 and
- Ar.sup.1 is phenyl,
- pyrrolidinyl,
- substituted pyrrolidinyl,
- heterocycle,
- 2- or 3-thienyl,
- 2- or 3-furanyl,
- 2-, 3- or 4-pyridinyl, ##STR153## wherein E' and F are each independently hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, methyl, methoxy, trifluoromethyl, nitro, hydroxy, NH.sub.2, and OCF.sub.3.

- 5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of a compound according to any one of claims 1-4, effective to suppress the appetite, to reduce gastric acid secretion, reduce anxiety, treat gastrointestinal ulcers, treat psychotic behavior, block the reaction caused by withdrawal from drug or alcohol use, potentate the effects of morphine and other opioids in treating pain, and treat and/or prevent panic in a mammal, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 6. A method of reducing anxiety in a mammal, comprising administering an effective anxiety reducing amount of a compound according to any one of claims 1-4.
