Claims
- 1. A cleaning device for removing developer remaining on the surface of an image bearing member comprising:
- cleaning means having a resilient cleaning blade member disengageably contactable with the surface of the image bearing member;
- guide means having a guide member which cooperates with said resilient cleaning blade member to form a slit-like opening;
- shutter means having a shutter member movable to the slit-like opening;
- blade operating means for moving the resilient cleaning blade; and
- shutter operating means for moving said shutter member, said shutter operating means being disposed to interfere with said blade operating means.
- 2. A device according to claim 1, wherein said blade operating means interferes with said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient cleaning blade member to its cleaning position.
- 3. A device according to claim 1, wherein said shutter operating means interferes with said blade operating means to prevent operation thereof when said shutter operating means moves said shutter member to a position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
- 4. A device according to claim 1, wherein said blade operating means allows free operation of said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient blade member away from its cleaning position.
- 5. A device according to claim 2, wherein said blade operating means allows free operation of said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient blade member away from its cleaning position.
- 6. A device according to claim 1, wherein said shutter operating means allows free operation of said blade operating means when said shutter operating means moves said shutter member away from a closing position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
- 7. A device according to claim 3, wherein said shutter operating means allows free operation of said blade operating means when said shutter operating means moves said shutter member away from a closing position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
- 8. A device according to claim 4, wherein said shutter operating means is automatically resettable to the closing position.
- 9. A cleaning device for removing developer remaining on the surface of a circulatable image bearing member, comprising:
- cleaning means having a resilient cleaning blade disengageably contacted with the surface of the image bearing member at a position where the image bearing member faces upwardly;
- guide means having a guide member which cooperates with said resilient cleaning blade member to form a slit-like opening;
- shutter means having a shutter member movable to the slit-like opening; and
- means for adjusting the interference between said resilient blade member and said shutter member, said adjusting means having a member interconnected with said resilient blade member and a member interconnected with said shutter member.
- 10. A cleaning device for removing developer remaining on the surface of an image bearing member comprising:
- cleaning means having a resilient cleaning blade member disengageably contactable with the surface of the image bearing member;
- guide means having a guiding member which cooperates with said resilient cleaning blade member to form a slit-like opening;
- shutter means having a shutter member movable to the slit-like opening;
- blade operating means for moving the resilient cleaning blade;
- shutter operating means for moving said shutter member, said shutter operating means being disposed to interfere with said blade operating means;
- seal means having a side member for preventing the removed developer from leaking past the end of the slit-like opening; and
- transport means for transporting the developer removed by said cleaning means away from the surface of the image bearing member.
- 11. A device according to claim 10, wherein said blade member is movably supported.
- 12. A device according to claim 10, wherein said guide member is movably supported.
- 13. A device according to claim 10, wherein said transport means transports the removed developer substantially along the slit-like opening.
- 14. A device according to claim 10, wherein said seal means comprises a soft cylindrical member enclosing said transport means.
- 15. A device according to claim 13, wherein said seal means comprises a soft cylindrical member enclosing said transport means.
- 16. A device according to claim 14, wherein said blade operating means interferes with said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient cleaning blade member to its cleaning position.
- 17. A device according to claim 14, wherein said shutter operating means interferes with said blade operating means to prevent operation thereof when said shutter operating means moves said shutter member to a position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
- 18. A device according to claim 14, wherein said blade operating means allows free operation of said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient blade member away from its cleaning position.
- 19. A device according to claim 16, wherein said blade operating means allows free operation of said shutter operating means when said blade operating means moves said resilient blade member away from its cleaning position.
- 20. A device according to claim 14, wherein said shutter operating means allows free operation of said blade operating means when said shutter operating means moves said shutter member away from a closing position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
- 21. A device according to claim 17, wherein said shutter operating means allows free operation of said blade operating means when said shutter opening means moves said shutter member away from a closing position where said shutter member closes the slit-like opening.
