Claims
- 1. An electrical fixture comprising:
a body having at least one terminal to secure a transmission line thereto; a first flange secured to the body to extend away therefrom in a first direction toward a first end; a second flange secured to the body to extend in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction, toward a second end; the first and second flanges each further comprising a pair of ears, the first and second pairs of ears being located proximate the first and second ends, respectively; the first and second flanges, wherein the ears of each pair of ears are spaced apart in a third direction substantially orthogonal to the first and second directions, and formed to have a recessed portion and an extended portion spaced therefrom to extend away from the body and away from the recessed portion, the recessed portion presenting an edge extending in the third direction.
- 2. The electrical fixture of claim 1,
wherein the extended portions define a clearance therebetween in at least one of the first and second directions; and further comprising a clip having a retainer sized to selectively deflect into the clearance provided between the extended portions.
- 3. The electrical fixture of claim 2, wherein the clip further comprises a front grip and a back grip sized to hold one of the first and second flanges therebetween.
- 4. The electrical fixture of claim 1, wherein at least one of the extended portions terminates at a distal edge thereof away from the body along a line extending substantially in the third direction.
- 5. The electrical fixture of claim 4, wherein the pair of ears corresponding to the first flange is formed to be symmetric with respect to a line in the first direction.
- 6. The electrical fixture of claim 5, wherein the pair of ears corresponding to the second flange is formed to be symmetric with respect to a line in the second direction.
- 7. The electrical fixture of claim 6, wherein the first pair of ears forms an opening therebetween in the first flange.
- 8. The electrical fixture of claim 7, wherein the ears of the first pair of ears further comprise interior edges defining the opening.
- 9. The electrical fixture of claim 8, wherein the body is selected from the group consisting of a power switch and a power receptacle.
- 10. The electrical fixture of claim 9, further comprising a first clip having a front grip and a back grip sized to hold the first flange therebetween.
- 11. The electrical fixture of claim 10, wherein at least one of the front and back grips further comprises a detent fitted to register the first clip in the third direction with respect to the opening.
- 12. The electrical fixture of claim 11, wherein the detent further comprises two protrusions formed in the back grip to engage the interior edges of the ears of the first pair of ears.
- 13. The electrical fixture of claim 12, wherein the first clip further comprises a retainer formed as a hook sufficiently resilient to selectively deflect to engage a faceplate.
- 14. The electrical fixture of claim 13, wherein the extended portions of the first pair of ears register the first flange in the first direction with respect to the first clip.
- 15. The electrical fixture of claim 1, further comprising a first clip having a front grip and a back grip sized to hold the first flange therebetween.
- 16. The electrical fixture of claim 15, wherein at least one of the front and back grips further comprises a detent fitted to register the first clip in the third direction with respect to the opening.
- 17. The electrical fixture of claim 16, wherein the detent further comprises two protrusions formed in the back grip to engage the interior edges of the ears of the first pair of ears.
- 18. The electrical fixture of claim 15, wherein the first clip further comprises a retainer formed as a hook sufficiently resilient to selectively deflect to engage a faceplate.
- 19. The electrical fixture of claim 15, wherein the extended portions of the first pair of ears register the first flange in the first direction with respect to the first clip.
- 20. The electrical fixture of claim 15, further comprising a second clip having a front grip and a back grip sized to hold the second flange therebetween.
- 21. An apparatus comprising:
a body comprising an electrical fixture selected from the group consisting of a power switch and a power receptacle and having at least one terminal to secure a transmission line thereto; a first flange secured to the body to extend away therefrom in a first direction toward a first end; a second flange secured to the body to extend in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction, toward a second end; a first clip having a front grip and a back grip sized to hold the first flange therebetween; a second clip having a front grip and a back grip sized to hold the second flange therebetween; and the first and second clips each comprising a resiliently deflectable hook and a detent registering the first and second clips with the respective first and second flanges.
- 22. An apparatus having longitudinal, lateral, and transverse axes substantially orthogonal to one another, the apparatus comprising:
an electrical fixture comprising a body having first and second flanges extending longitudinally opposite one another; a face plate to substantially cover the electrical fixture; a first retainer formed as a hook selectively deflectable to secure the face plate to the first flange; a second retainer to connect the face plate to the second flange; the face plate, further comprising a first engagement lip shaped to both deflect and receive the first retainer without tools, and a second engagement lip to engage the second retainer without tools the face plate, further comprising a first stop to resist relative motion with respect to the first retainer in the lateral direction while the first retainer restrains the face plate in the transverse direction.
- 23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the face plate further comprises a second stop positioned to resist motion with respect to the first retainer in the lateral direction.
- 24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the first stop is positioned proximate a first end of the first engagement lip and the second stop is positioned proximate a second end of the first engagement lip.
- 25. The apparatus of claim 24 wherein the first engagement lip is discontinuous.
