Claims
- 1. An animal feed composition comprising an intimate mixture of comminuted Theobroma fruit pods and from 2 to 10%, by weight, based upon said comminuted fruit pods of an edible fatty material, said fruit pods having been prepared by treating unopened Theobroma fruits with a preservative agent for a period of time sufficient to neutralize any toxic substances on the surface of the fruit and to stabilize lignification of the outer layer (peeling) of the fruit, drying the fruits to a moisture content of less than 70%, opening the dried fruits, and removing and separating the cocoa beans therefrom.
- 2. An animal feed composition comprising dried and comminuted parenchymatous tissue (fruit flesh) obtained by treating unopened cocoa fruits with a preservative agent for a period of time sufficient to neutralize any toxic substances on the surface of the fruits and to stabilize lignification of the outer layer (peel) of the fruits, drying the fruits to a moisture content of less than 70%, opening the dried fruits, and removing and separating the cocoa beans with adhering pulp therefrom.
- 3. The animal feed composition according to claim 2, wherein said preservative agent is selected from the group consisting of sorbic acid, sulfur dioxide, chlorine, hypochlorite, salt, formaldehyde, salts of sorbic acid, ozone, methyl formate, diphenyl, ammonia, sodium o-phenyl phenolate, and nitrogen trichloride.
- 4. The animal feed composition as defined by claim 2, further comprising a protein product precipitated from protein-containing waste waters of a food processing plant.
- 5. The animal feed composition as defined by claim 2, further comprising a grain variety animal feed.
- 6. The animal feed composition as defined by claim 2, further comprising molasses.
- 7. The animal feed composition as defined by claim 2, further comprising oil seed residues.

No. 459,318, filed Apr. 9, 1974 and entitled "COMPLETE UTILIZATION OF COCOA FRUITS AND PRODUCTS", now abandoned, which application, in turn, is a division of Application Ser. No. 165,396, filed July 23, 1971, and entitled "PROCESS FOR THE COMPLETE UTILIZATION OF COCOA FRUITS", now U.S. Pat. No. 3,809,778.
