Claims
- 1. A hydrostatic transmission comprising:
- a housing forming a sump for storing a quantity of hydraulic fluid;
- a center section mounted in said housing and having a hydraulic circuit;
- a hydraulic pump mounted in said housing;
- a hydraulic motor mounted in said housing and drivingly linked to said hydraulic pump through said hydraulic circuit;
- a plate secured to said center section; and
- a valve secured in said center section by said plate and disposed between said sump and said hydraulic circuit, said valve being movable between a first position whereby said hydraulic fluid is allowed to flow from said sump into said hydraulic circuit, a second position whereby said hydraulic fluid is allowed to flow from said hydraulic circuit into said sump, and a third position whereby no hydraulic fluid flows through said valve.
- 2. The hydrostatic transaxle as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a filter mounted in said sump adjacent to said valve.
- 3. The hydrostatic transaxle as set forth in claim 1, wherein said pump and said motor are rotatably mounted on said center section.
- 4. A hydrostatic transmission comprising:
- a housing forming a sump for storing a quantity of hydraulic fluid;
- a center section mounted in said housing and having a hydraulic circuit;
- a hydraulic pump mounted in said housing;
- a hydraulic motor mounted in said housing and drivingly linked to said hydraulic pump through said hydraulic circuit;
- a plate secured to said center section;
- a valve secured to said center section by said plate and operatively disposed between said hydraulic circuit and said sump, said valve comprising:
- a valve body having a hydraulic fluid passage which operatively connects said hydraulic circuit to said sump;
- a spool slidably mounted in said valve body and movable between a first position wherein said hydraulic fluid passage is substantially open and a second position wherein said hydraulic fluid passage is substantially blocked; and
- a chamber formed between said valve body and said spool in which a portion of said hydraulic fluid is disposed when said spool is in said first position whereby said hydraulic fluid is forced from said chamber when said spool is caused to move from said first position to said second position such that the rate of movement of said spool between said first and second positions is controllable.
- 5. The hydrostatic transaxle as set forth in claim 4, further comprising a filter mounted in said sump adjacent to said valve.
- 6. The hydrostatic transaxle as set forth in claim 4, wherein said pump and said motor are rotatably mounted on said center section.
