- h) means for isolating heat generated by the bulb and filter from conduction to the grip area of the handle.
- 2. A lamp as in claim 1, further comprising the handle being made of a low heat conductive material and having a heat barrier wall between the socket and the grip area.
- 3. A lamp as in claim 1, further comprising the handle being made of a low heat conductive material and having a closed hollow insulating chamberbetween the socket and the grip area.
- 4. A lamp as in claim 3, further comprising the insulating chamber being formed by and between an interior wall on which the socket is mounted and a heat barrier wall ahead of the grip area.
- 5. A lamp as in claim 3, wherein the handle is formed from two essentially identical, hemispherical-split cylindrical sub-assemblies, which are bonded together after assembly of internal parts.
- 6. A lamp as in claim 4, wherein the handle is formed from two essentially identical, hemispherical-split cylindrical sub-assemblies, which are bonded together after assembly of internal parts.
- 7. A lamp as in claim 1, further comprising an elastomeric filter holder being attached to the housing and surrounding the aperture, the ultraviolet light filter being recessed in the holder.
- 8. A lamp as in claim 1, further comprising means for protecting the ultraviolet filter from hot spots.
- 9. A lamp as in claim 1, further comprising a scattering reflector disk mounted between the light bulb and the center of the ultraviolet filter.
- 10. A lamp as in claim 2, further comprising means for protecting the ultraviolet filter from hot spots.
- 11. A lamp as in claim 2, further comprising a scattering reflector disk mounted between the light bulb and the center of the ultraviolet filter.
- 12. A lamp as in claim 3, further comprising means for protecting the ultraviolet filter from hot spots.
- 13. A lamp as in claim 3, further comprising a scattering reflector disk mounted between the light bulb and the center of the ultraviolet filter.
- 14. A lamp as in claim 2, further comprising a transmission line connecting the bulb to an electrical power source, the handle being adapted to receive the transmission line at the handle end opposite the end on which the bulb is mounted.
- 15. A lamp as in claim 3, further comprising a transmission line connecting the bulb to an electrical power source, the handle being adapted to receive the transmission line at the handle end opposite the end on which the bulb is mounted.
- 16. A lamp as in claim 4, further comprising a transmission line connecting the bulb to an electrical power source, the handle being adapted to receive the transmission line at the handle end opposite the end on which the bulb is mounted.
- 17. A lamp as in claim 5, further comprising a transmission line connecting the bulb to an electrical power source, the handle being adapted to receive the transmission line at the handle end opposite the end on which the bulb is mounted.
- 18. A lamp as in claim 14, further comprising a momentary on/off switch in the handle.
- 19. A lamp as in claim 15, further comprising a momentary on/off switch in the handle.
- 20. A lamp as in claim 17, further comprising a momentary on/off switch in the handle.
- 21. A lamp as in claim 18, further comprising a momentary on/off switch in the handle.
- 22. A hand-held high-intensity ultraviolet inspection lamp comprising:
- a) a substantially-straight handle having two ends, a grip area, and a longitudinal axis;
- b) a bulb housing comprising an enclosed chamber proximate to one end of the handle, the bulb housing also having a longitudinal axis, and the handle and the bulb housing being in-line such that the axis of the housing is substantially aligned with the axis of the handle;
- c) a high-intensity light bulb within the bulb housing;
