Claims
- 1. A lathe, comprising:
- a frame;
- first and second spindle stocks having first and second workpiece spindles rotatably supported thereby, respectively, said first and second spindle stocks being disposed on said frame so as to face each other and so as to be free to move only in a direction along axis centers of said first and second workpiece spindles, said axis centers of said first and second workpiece spindles being colinear;
- first and second workpiece holding means provided with said first and second workpiece spindles, respectively, for holding a single workpiece between said first and second spindle stocks;
- at least one tool rest capable of selectively positioning tools for said first and second workpiece holding means;
- first and second feed screws rotatably disposed on said frame, said first and second spindle stocks being engaged with said first and second feed screws, respectively, for independently moving said first and second spindle stocks in said direction of said axis centers of said workpiece spindle by rotation of said feed screws;
- first and second means for rotatably driving said first and second feed screws, respectively, connected with said first and second feed screws;
- a rotation angular quantity detecting means for electrically detecting the angular rotation of both said first and said second feed screws, and for outputting a signal corresponding to the angular rotation of said first and said second feed screws;
- a synchronous movement control means for controlling at least one of said first and said second means for rotatably driving said first and said second feed screws so that said first and second spindle stocks synchronously move at the same speed in the same direction upon rotation of said first and second feed screws by said first and second means for rotatably driving while a single workpiece is held between said first and second spindle stocks on the basis of said signal outputted from said rotation angular quantity detecting means; and
- synchronous movement command means for commanding said synchronous movement control means to synchronously move said first and second spindle stocks.
- 2. The lathe of claim 1, and further comprising rotational angle control means for controlling the amount of angular rotation of said first and second workpiece spindles.
- 3. The lathe of claim 1, wherein said rotation angular quantity detecting means comprises a rotary encoder on each said feed screw detecting the quantity of angular rotation of said feed screws.
- 4. The lathe of claim 3, wherein each said rotary encoder comprises a rotating disc connecting to its respective said feed screw and a sensor sensing the rotation of said rotating disc.
- 5. The lathe of claim 1, wherein said first and said second means for rotatably driving said first and said second feed screws comprise respective motors, and said synchronous movement control means controls one said motor on the basis of the speed of said feed screw of the other said motor.
- 6. The lathe of claim 5, wherein said synchronous movement control means checks and maintains the synchronous rotation of said feed screws by minimizing the difference between the detected quantity of angular rotation of said feed screws.
- 7. A lathe, comprising:
- a frame;
- first and second spindle stocks having first and second workpiece spindles rotatably supported thereby, respectively, said first and second spindle stocks being disposed on said frame so as to face each other and so as to be free to move only in a direction along axis centers of said first and second workpiece spindles, said axis centers of said first and second workpiece spindles being colinear;
- first and second workpiece holding means provided with said first and second workpiece spindles, respectively, for holding a single workpiece between said first and second spindle stocks;
- at least one tool rest capable of selectively positioning tools for said first and second workpiece holding means;
- first and second feed screws rotatably disposed on said frame, said first and second spindle stocks being engaged with said first and second feed screws, respectively, for independently moving said first and second spindle stocks in said direction of said axis centers of said workpiece spindle by rotation of said feed screws;
- first and second means for rotatably driving said first and second feed screws, respectively, connected with said first and second feed screws; and
- a clutch means for operably connecting said first and second feed screws together so that said first and second spindle stocks move at the same speed in the same direction upon rotation of one of said first and second feed screws by one of said first and second means for rotatably driving while a single workpiece is held between said spindle stocks and for disconnecting said first and second feed screws.
- 8. The lathe of claim 7, and further comprising rotational angle control means for controlling the amount of angular rotation of said first and second workpiece spindles.
- 9. The lathe of claim 7, wherein each of said feed screw has a gear at an end thereof and said clutch means comprises a rotatable shaft with clutch gears fixed thereto for engagement with respective said gears of said feed screws.
- 10. The lathe of claim 9, wherein said first and second means for rotatably driving said first and second feed screws comprise respective drive motors.
- 11. The lathe of claim 10, wherein said first and second feed screws are connected to said first and second spindle stocks with respective nuts.
