Claims
- 1. A method for producing autoinducer-2 comprising contacting S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) with a LuxS protein under conditions and for such time as to promote the conversion of S-adenosylhomocysteine to autoinducer-2.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the production of autoinducer-2 is in vitro.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the production of autoinducer-2 is in vivo.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising a 5′-methylthioadenosine/S-adenosylhomocysteine nucleosidase protein (pfs).
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the autoinducer-2 is 4,5-dihydroxy-2,3-pentanedione.
- 6. A method for producing autoinducer-2 comprising contacting S-ribosylhomocysteine (SRH) with a LuxS polypeptide under conditions and for such time as to promote the conversion of S-ribosylhomocysteine to autoinducer-2.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the autoinducer-2 is 4,5-dihydroxy-2,3-pentanedione.
- 8. A method for producing autoinducer-2 comprising:
a) contacting S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) with a 5′-methylthioadenosine/S-adenosylhomocysteine nucleosidase (pfs) protein under conditions and for such time as to promote the conversion of S-adenosylhomocysteine to S-ribosylhomocysteine; b) contacting the S-ribosylhomocysteine from a) with a LuxS protein under conditions and for such time as to promote the conversion of S-ribosylhomocysteine to autoinducer-2.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the autoinducer-2 is 4,5-dihydroxy-2,3-pentanedione.
