Claims
- 1. An epoxy composition (XII) prepared by epoxidizing a composition consisting essentially of compounds having vinyl groups as side chains, said compounds being obtained by reacting (c) with (b), and subsequently (a), and or by simultaneous reaction of (c), (b) and (a); wherein
- (a) is at least one compound having at least one vinyl group and one epoxy group in the molecule, which said vinyl group is not directly connected to a carbonyl group;
- (b) is at least one of a polybasic compound, an anhydride thereof, a polymer having carboxylic groups at terminals and a polymer having carboxylic groups as side chains;
- (c) is at least one organic compound having at least one active hydrogen atom selected from the group consisting of alcohols, phenols, amines, thiols, carboxylic acids, oxycarboxylic acids, allyl alcohol, (meth)acrylic acid, 2-hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylate, 3-cyclohexenemethanol, and lactone-modified(meth)acrylates wherein said epoxidation is carried out by reaction of the vinyl groups with a peracid or hydroperoxide.
- 2. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is 4-vinylcyclohexene-1-oxide.
- 3. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is 5-vinylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepto-2-en-2-oxide.
- 4. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is limoneneoxide.
- 5. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is a compound represented by the formula: ##STR30## wherein, n is an integer of from 0 to 30.
- 6. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is a compound represented by the formula: ##STR31## wherein, n1 and n2 are an integer of from 0 to 30, respectively.
- 7. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound (a) is a compound represented by the formula: ##STR32## wherein, n is an integer of from 0 to 30.
- 8. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound(b) is hexahydrophthalic anhydride.
- 9. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound(b) is methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride.
- 10. An epoxy composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein said compound(b) is phthalic acid.
- 11. An epoxy resin composition which comprises an epoxy composition (XII) of claim 1 and a curing agent having a functional group being capable of reacting with an epoxy group.
- 12. An encapsulating composition comprising an epoxy resin as set forth in claim 11.
- 13. A photo-curable composition comprising an epoxy resin composition as set forth in claim 11.
- 14. A solder resist ink composition comprising an epoxy resin composition as set forth in claim 11.
- 15. A costing composition comprising an epoxy resin composition as set forth in claim 11.
- 16. A coating composition as set forth in claim 11, wherein said coating composition is a powder coating composition.
