Claims
- 1 A composition for sublingual application of peptides comprising:
a) at least one peptide, b) a mostly anhydrous medium, c) a non-volatile water soluble solvent, and d) a topical vasodilator.
- 2 The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one peptide is a complex mixture of at least two peptides.
- 3 The composition of claim 1 wherein the mostly anhydrous medium is glycerin.
- 4 The composition of claim 2 wherein the mostly anhydrous medium is glycerin.
- 5 The composition of claim 1 wherein the water soluble solvent is polyethylene glycol.
- 6 The composition of claim 2 wherein the water soluble solvent is polyethylene glycol.
- 7 The composition of claim 3 wherein the water soluble solvent is polyethylene glycol.
- 8 The composition of claim 1 further comprising a surfactant.
- 9 The composition of claim 2 further comprising a surfactant.
- 10 The composition of claim 3 further comprising a surfactant.
- 11 The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one peptide ranges from 0.001 to 99% by weight of the composition, the mostly anhydrous medium ranges from 0.001 to 99% by weight of the composition, the water soluble solvent ranges from 0.001 to 99% by weight of the composition, and the topical vasodilator ranges from 0.00001 to 25% by weight of the composition.
- 12 The composition of claim 1 further comprising a surfactant that ranges from 0.0001 to 25% by weight of the composition.
- 13 The composition of claim 8 wherein the at least one peptide is generally 5% by weight of the composition, the mostly anhydrous medium is generally 44.5% by weight of the composition; the water soluble solvent is generally 44.9% by weight of the composition, and the topical vasodilator is 0.1% by weight of the composition.
- 14 The composition of claim 13 further comprising a surfactant that is generally 0.5% by weight of the composition.
- 15 The composition of claim 13 in a liquid form.
- 16 The composition of claim 14 in a liquid form.
- 17 The composition of claim 13 in a tablet form.
- 18 The composition of claim 145 in a tablet form.
- 19 A method for administering peptide medicaments comprising the steps of
a) providing a composition comprising at least one peptide, a mostly anhydrous medium, a non-volatile water soluble solvent, and a topical vasodilator; b) placing the composition under the tongue of an animal; c) allowing the composition to be sublingually absorbed by the animal.
- 20 The method according to claim 19 wherein the composition further includes a surfactant.
