Claims
- 1. A polymeric photoconductor comprising a condensation polymer containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a diacid, and
- (b) an organic difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said diacid,
- wherein at least one of said residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 2. The polymeric photoconductor of claim 1 wherein the residue of said organic difunctional compound contains said appended arylamine.
- 3. The polymeric photoconductor of claim 1 wherein the residue of said diacid contains said appended arylamine.
- 4. The polymeric photoconductor of claim 2 or 3 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine.
- 5. An ionic polymeric photoconductor comprising a condensation polymer containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a first diacid,
- (b) a second diacid containing an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group, and
- (c) at least one organic difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said first and second diacids,
- wherein at least one of said first diacid and organic difunctional compound residues contains said appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 6. The ionic polymeric photoconductor of claim 5 wherein the residue of said organic difunctional compound contains said appended arylamine.
- 7. The ionic polymeric photoconductor of claim 5 wherein the residue of said first diacid contains said appended arylamine.
- 8. The ionic polymeric photoconductor of claim 6 or 7 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine.
- 9. A polymeric photoconductor having the structure ##STR41## wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1, which are the same or different, are organic groups containing an arylamine which confers photoconductivity upon the polymer; R.sup.1 --.pi..sup.1 together with G and G.sup.1 represents an arylamine-containing organic condensation residue of a difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation with organic diacids; R together with G.sup.2 and G.sup.3 represents at least one organic condensation residue of a difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation with organic diacids; G and G.sup.1, which are the same or different, and G.sup.2 and G.sup.3, which are the same or different, represent --O-- or --NH--; A.sup.1, A.sup.2 and A.sup.3, which are the same or different, represent the condensation residues of acid groups; R.sup.2.theta. is an organic group which contains an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group; M.sup.+ is a cation; --A.sup.3 --R.sup.3 --A.sup.3 represents an organic diacid condensation residue; x is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diacid content; y is 0 to about 35 mole percent of the total diacid content; z is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diacid content; the sum of x, y and z is 100; v is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total difunctional compound content; and v+x is at least 20.
- 10. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 9 wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1 have the structure ##STR42## wherein u is an integer from 1 to 6; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are the same or different and represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R.sup.4 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or arylenealkylene; at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 comprises an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom; R.sup.3 is an alkylene, arylene, arylenealkylene, cycloalkylene, heterocyclic or an ethylenically unsaturated group; and A.sup.1, A.sup.2 and A.sup.3 are ##STR43##
- 11. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 10 wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each comprise an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom.
- 12. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 10 wherein R.sup.4 is phenylene, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each phenyl or tolyl, u is 1, and v is 0.
- 13. A polymeric photoconductor of claim 10, 11 or 12 wherein R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of: ##STR44##
- 14. A polymeric photoconductor comprising a polyester containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a dicarboxylic acid, and
- (b) an organic diol capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said dicarboxylic acid, wherein at least one of said residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 15. The polyester of claim 14 wherein the residue of said organic diol contains said appended arylamine.
- 16. The polyester of claim 14 wherein the residue of said dicarboxylic acid contains said appended arylamine.
- 17. The polyester of claim 15 or 16 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine.
- 18. An ionic polymeric photoconductor comprising a polyester containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a first dicarboxylic acid,
- (b) a second dicarboxylic acid containing an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group, and
- (c) at least one organic diol capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said first and second dicarboxylic acids,
- wherein at least one of said first dicarboxylic acid and organic diol residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 19. A polymeric photoconductor having the structure ##STR45## wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1, which are the same or different, are organic groups containing an arylamine which confers photoconductivity upon the polymer; ##STR46## is the condensation residue of an arylamine-containing organic diol having from about to 2 about 40 carbon atoms; --O--R--O-- is the condensation residue of at least one organic diol having from about 2 to about 40 carbon atoms; R.sup.2.theta. is an organic group which contains an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group; M.sup.+ is a cation; ##STR47## represents an organic dicarboxylic acid condensation residue; x is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; y is 0 to about 35 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; z is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; the sum of x, y and z is 100; v is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diol content; and v+x is at least 20.
- 20. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 19 wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1 have the structure: ##STR48## wherein u is an integer from 1 to 6; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are the same or different and represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R.sup.4 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or arylenealkylene; at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 comprises an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom; and R.sup.3 is an alkylene, arylene, arylenealkylene, cycloalkylene, heterocyclic or an ethylenically unsaturated group.
- 21. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 20 wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each comprise an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom.
- 22. A polymeric photoconductor as in claim 20 wherein R.sup.4 is phenylene, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each phenyl or tolyl, u is 1, and v is 0.
- 23. A water-dispersible polymeric photoconductor as in claim 20, 21 or 22 wherein v is 0, x is from about 40 to about 60 mole percent, and y is from about 10 to about 30 mole percent.
- 24. A polymeric photoconductor of claim 23 wherein R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR49##
- 25. A polymeric photoconductor of claim 20, 21 or 22 wherein the repeating unit ##STR50## is the condensation residue of a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of 3,3'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassiomino)disulfonyl]dinaphthoic acid; 5-[N-potassio-N-(4-tolylsulfonyl)sulfamoyl]isophthalic acid, 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid, 5-(4-sodiosulfophenoxy)isophthalic acid, 5-(3-sodiosulfopropoxy)isophthalic acid, and 5-(4-sodiosulfocyclohexyloxy)-1,3-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid.
- 26. A water-dispersible polymeric photoconductor as in claim 23 wherein the repeating unit ##STR51## is the condensation residue of a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of 3,3'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'[(potassiomino)disulfonyl]dinaphthoic acid; 5-[N-potassio-N-(4-tolylsulfonyl)sulfamoyl]isophthalic acid, 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid, 5-(4-sodiosulfophenoxy)isophthalic acid, 5-(3-sodiosulfopropoxy)isophthalic acid, and 5-(4-sodiosulfocyclohexyloxy)-1,3-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid.
- 27. A photoconductive composition comprising a condensation polymer containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a diacid, and
- (b) an organic difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said diacid,
- wherein at least one of said residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 28. The composition of claim 27 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine, said composition further comprising a spectral sensitizer.
- 29. An ionic photoconductive composition comprising a condensation polymer containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a first diacid,
- (b) a second diacid containing an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group, and
- (c) at least one organic difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said first and second diacids,
- wherein at least one of said first diacid and organic difunctional compound residues contains said appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 30. The ionic composition of claim 29 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine, said composition further comprising a spectral sensitizer.
- 31. A photoconductive composition comprising
- (a) a polymeric photoconductor having the structure ##STR52## wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1, which are the same or different, are organic groups containing an arylamine which confers photoconductivity upon the polymer; R.sup.1 -.pi..sup.1 together with G and G.sup.1 represents an arylamine-containing organic condensation residue of a difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation with organic diacids; R together with G.sup.2 and G.sup.3 represents at least one organic condensation residue of a difunctional compound capable of undergoing condensation with organic diacids; G and G.sup.1, which are the same or different, and G.sup.2 and G.sup.3, which are the same or different, represent --O-- or --NH--; A.sup.1, A.sup.2 and A.sup.3, which are the same or different, represent the condensation residues of acid groups; R.sup.2.theta. is an organic group which contains an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group; M.sup.+ is a cation; --A.sup.3 --R.sup.3 --A.sup.3 represents an organic diacid condensation residue; x is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diacid content; y is 0 to about 35 mole percent of the total diacid content; z is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diacid content; the sum of x, y and z is 100; v is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total difunctional compound content; and v+x is at least 20, and
- (b) a spectral sensitizer.
- 32. A composition as in claim 31 wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1 have the structure ##STR53## wherein u is an integer from 1 to 6; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are the same or different and represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R.sup.4 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or arylenealkylene; at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 comprises an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom; R.sup.3 is an alkylene, arylene, arylenealkylene, cycloalkylene, heterocyclic or an ethylenically unsaturated group; A.sup.1, A.sup.2 and A.sup.3 are ##STR54## and said spectral sensitizer is a pyrylium dye salt.
- 33. The composition as in claim 32 wherein R.sup.4 is phenylene, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each phenyl or tolyl, u is 1, and v is 0.
- 34. The composition of claim 32 or 33 wherein R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of: ##STR55##
- 35. A photoconductive composition comprising a polyester containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a dicarboxylic acid, and
- (b) an organic diol capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said dicarboxylic acid,
- wherein at least one of said residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 36. The composition of claim 35 wherein said arylamine is a triarylamine, said composition further comprising a spectral sensitizer.
- 37. An photoconductive composition comprising a polyester containing, as repeating units, the condensation residues of:
- (a) a first dicarboxylic acid,
- (b) a second dicarboxylic acid containing an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group, and
- (c) at least one organic diol capable of undergoing condensation polymerization with said first and second dicarboxylic acids, wherein at least one of said first dicarboxylic acid and organic diol residues contains an appended arylamine photoconductor group.
- 38. A photoconductive composition comprising
- (a) a polymeric photoconductor having the structure ##STR56## wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1, which are the same or different, are organic groups containing an arylamine which confers photoconductivity upon the polymer; ##STR57## is the condensation residue of an arylamine-containing organic diol having from about to 2 about 40 carbon atoms; --O--R--O-- is the condensation residue of at least one organic diol having from about 2 to about 40 carbon atoms; R.sup.2.theta. is an organic group which contains an anionic iminodisulfonyl or sulfo group; M.sup.+ is a cation; ##STR58## represents an organic dicarboxylic acid condensation residue; x is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; y is 0 to about 35 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; z is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total dicarboxylic acid content; the sum of x, y and z is 100; v is 0 to 100 mole percent of the total diol content; and v+x is at least 20, and
- (b) a spectral sensitizer.
- 39. The composition as in claim 38 wherein .pi. and .pi..sup.1 has the structure: ##STR59## wherein u is an integer from 1 to 6; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are the same or different and represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R.sup.4 is alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or arylenealkylene; at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 comprises an aromatic group appended to the nitrogen atom; R.sup.3 is an alkylene, arylene, arylenealkylene, cycloalkylene, heterocyclic or an ethylenically unsaturated group, and said spectral sensitizer is a pyrylium dye salt.
- 40. The composition as in claim 39 wherein R.sup.4 is phenylene, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each phenyl or tolyl, u is 1, and v is 0.
- 41. An aqueous photoconductive composition containing a water-dispersible polymeric photoconductor comprising a polymer as in claim 39 or 40 wherein v is 0, x is from about 40 to about 60 mole percent, and y is from about 10 to about 30 mole percent.
- 42. The composition as in claim 41 wherein R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR60##

The composition as in claim 39 or 40 wherein the repeating unit ##STR61## is the condensation residue of a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of 3,3'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassiomino)disulfonyl]dinaphthoic acid; 5-[N-potassio-N-(4-tolylsulfonyl)sulfamoyl]isophthalic acid 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid, 5-(4-sodiosulfophenoxy)isophthalic acid, 5-(3-sodiosulfopropoxy)isophthalic acid, and 5-(4-sodiosulfocyclohexyloxy)-1,3-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid.

An aqueous photoconductive composition as in claim 41 wherein the repeating unit ##STR62## is the condensation residue of a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of 3,3'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,3'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'-[(potassioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(lithioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 3,4'-[(sodioimino)disulfonyl]dibenzoic acid; 4,4'[(potassiomino)disulfonyl]dinaphthoic acid; 5-[(N-potassio-N-(4-tolylsulfonyl)sulfamoyl]isophthalic acid 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid, 5-(4-sodiosulfophenoxy)isophthalic acid, 5-(3-sodiosulfopropoxy)isophthalic acid, and 5-(4-sodiosulfocyclohexyloxy)-1,3-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid.
