Claims
- 1. A covered vanity mirror comprising:
- a mirror frame and mirror mounted therein;
- a cover and a pair of spaced apart hinges for pivotally mounting said cover to said mirror frame for selectively covering said mirror; and
- an elongated wire spring extending between said hinges and attached to said mirror frame, said spring including opposite ends extending into engagement with said pair of hinges for providing over-center biasing of said cover toward open and closed positions.
- 2. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 1 wherein each of said hinges include an offset cam and wherein each of said ends of said spring engages an associated cam.
- 3. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 2 wherein each of said cams includes a pair of spaced guides for engaging one of said ends of said wire spring.
- 4. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 3 wherein said frame includes a channel for receiving a section of said wire spring located between said opposite ends of said wire spring for anchoring said spring to said frame.
- 5. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 4 and further including a backing member positioned behind said mirror and attached to said frame, said backing member overlying at least said section of said wire spring.
- 6. A covered vanity mirror comprising:
- a mirror frame and mirror mounted therein;
- a cover and hinge pivotally mounting said cover to said mirror frame for selectively covering said mirror;
- a wire spring attached to said mirror frame, said spring further extending into engagement with said hinge for providing over-center biasing of said cover toward open and closed positions; and
- a flexible electrical circuit having first and second panels extending between said cover and said mirror frame, said circuit including a substrate made of a flexible insulating material and having mounted thereto electrical conductors terminating in at least one socket on one of said first and second panels and control means on the other of said first and second panels with one of said first and second panels extending into said cover, and the other of said first and second panels extending into said vanity mirror frame, and a lamp mounted to said socket for providing illumination for said mirror.
- 7. A covered vanity mirror comprising:
- a mirror frame and mirror mounted therein;
- a cover and a pair of spaced hinges for pivotally mounting said cover to said mirror frame for selectively covering said mirror; and
- an elongated wire spring attached to said mirror frame and having spaced apart ends extending into engagement with said hinges for providing over-center biasing of said cover toward open and closed positions.
- 8. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 7 wherein each of said hinges include an offset cam and wherein one of said ends of said spring engages an associated one of said cams.
- 9. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 8 wherein each of said cams includes a pair of spaced guides for engaging opposite sides of an associated end of said wire spring.
- 10. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 9 wherein said frame includes a channel for receiving a section of said wire spring for anchoring said spring to said frame.
- 11. The vanity mirror as defined in claim 10 and further including a backing member positioned behind said mirror and attached to said frame, said backing member overlying at least said section of said wire spring.
- 12. A covered vanity mirror comprising:
- a mirror frame and mirror mounted therein;
- a cover and hinge pivotally mounting said cover to said mirror frame for selectively covering said mirror;
- a wire spring attached to said mirror frame and extending into engagement with said hinge for providing over-center biasing of said cover toward open and closed positions; and
- a flexible electrical circuit having first and second panels extending between said cover and said mirror frame, said circuit including a substrate made of a flexible insulating material and having mounted thereto electrical conductors terminating in at least one socket on one of said first and second panels and control means on the other of said first and second panels with one of said first and second panels extending into said cover, and the other of said first and second panels extending into said vanity mirror frame, and a lamp mounted to said socket for providing illumination for said mirror.
- 13. A hinge assembly for a covered illuminated vanity mirror visor comprising:
- a mirror frame and mirror mounted therein;
- a cover and a pair of spaced apart hinges pivotally mounting said cover to said mirror frame for selectively covering said mirror;
- a light source for providing light for use of said mirror; and
- a spring made of formed spring wire anchored to said mirror frame and including ends engaging said hinges to provide over-center control of said cover between open and closed positions.
- 14. The hinge assembly as defined in claim 13 wherein said hinges each include at least one cam receiving an end of said wire spring and said frame includes a channel for receiving a section of said wire spring.
- 15. The hinge assembly as defined in claim 14 wherein said end of said wire spring incudes a loop for engaging said cam.
- 16. The hinge assembly as defined in claim 15 wherein said wire spring includes a section which lies in a plane behind said mirror and extends in said channel.
- 17. The hinge assembly as defined in claim 16 and further including a backing member coupled to said frame and captively holding said section of said wire spring in said channel.
