Claims
- 1. A microprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate comprising:a central processing unit which provides a plurality of logical addresses; one or more address signal terminals which provide physical addresses external to the microprocessor corresponding to the logical addresses; one or more data signal terminals which provide or receive data to or from external to the microprocessor; one or more control signal terminals; and a control unit which providers a plurality of control signals external to the microprocessor via the one or more control signal terminals; wherein the one or more control signal terminals receive a card detect signal which indicates connection of a card device; further comprising: a memory management unit coupled to the central processing unit and converting the logical addresses into the physical addresses; wherein the central processing unit accesses an external address space of the microprocessor, wherein the external address space is divided into a plurality of address areas, one of which is allocated to the card device.
- 2. A micorprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate according to claim 1, wherein the control signals include a card enable signal to enable the microprocessor to access the card device when a physical address is in the address area for the card device.
- 3. A microprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate according to claim 2, further comprising a plurality of registers, wherein one of the plurality of registers stores card device control information.
- 4. A microprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate according to claim 1, wherein the card device includes a PC card which includes a memory card and/or an I/O card.
- 5. A microprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate,a central processing unit providing a plurality of logical address signals; one or more address terminals which output a plurality of physical address signals corresponding to the logical address signals; one or more data terminals; one or more control terminals; an interface unit coupled to the one or more control terminals; and a plurality of registers including a first register which stores control information, wherein the control information controls access by the central processing unit to an external device outside of the micorprocessor; wherein the one or more control terminals receive a removable external device detect signal from outside of the microprocessor, further comprising: a memory management unit coupled to the central processing unit and converting the logical address signals into the physical address signals.
- 6. A microprocessor formed on a semiconductor substrate according to claim 5, wherein the external device comprises a removable external device, wherein the central processing unit accesses the removable external device coupled via at least part of the address terminals, data terminals and control terminals according to the control information of the first register.
