Claims
- 1. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid.
- 2. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1,
- 3. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein
i. R, R′, R″ are each selected from the group consisting of: a hydrogen atom, a methyl functional group, and a C8-C24 alkyl functional group; ii. R′″ is selected from the group consisting of: an aryl functional group, and an alkyl aryl functional group; and iii. X is selected from the group consisting of: sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, carboxylic acid, and phosphoric acid.
- 4. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein,
i. R, R′, R″ are each selected from the group consisting of: a hydrogen atom, a methyl functional group, and a C8-C24 alkyl functional group, ii. R′″ is selected from the group consisting of: an aryl functional group, a mono-C8-C24 alkyl benzene, a mono-C8-C24 alkyl toluene, a mono-C8 to C24 alkyl xylene, a di-C8-C24 alkyl benzene, and a di-C8-C24 alkyl toluene, and iii. X is selected from the group consisting of: sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, carboxylic acid, and phosphoric acid.
- 5. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein,
i. R is selected from the group of linear, completely saturated, alkyl chains with 8 to 18 carbons, ii. R′ and R″ are each hydrogen atoms, iii. R′″ is an alkyl aryl functional group and iv. X is a sulfonic acid.
- 6. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein,
i. R is a methyl functional group, ii. R′ and R″ are cocoyl functional groups, iii. R′″ is alkyl aryl functional group and iv. X is a sulfonic acid.
- 7. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein,
i. R and R′ are methyl functional groups, ii. R″ is cocoyl functional group, iii. R′″ is alkyl aryl functional group and iv. X is a sulfonic acid
- 8. A compound comprised of the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid of the general Formula 1, wherein,
i. R, R′, and R″ are cocoyl functional groups, ii. R′″ is an alkyl aryl functional group and iii. X is a sulfonic acid.
- 9. The compound of claims 5, 6, 7, or 8 wherein the alkyl-aryl sulfonic acid has an equivalent weight from 300 to 600.
- 10. A method of demulsifying a mixture of a functional fluid with water or a polar solvent by mixing the compound in claim 9 with said emulsion.
- 11. A method of inhibiting the formation of an emulsion by mixing the compound in claim 9 with an organic system.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the system includes a paraffinic oil, naphthenic oil, ester, mineral oil, poly alpha olefin, or alkyl aromatic oil.
- 13. The method of claim 10 wherein the compound in claim 9 is dissolved in the solvent with a concentration less than 5% and more than 0.01% by weight.
- 14. The method of claim 10 wherein the compound in claim 9 is dissolved in the solvent with a concentration less than 5% and more than 0.01% by weight
- 15. A method of demulsifying an emulsion formed in an ester by mixing an amphiphilic amine with the emulsion.
- 16. A method of inhibiting formation of an emulsion in an ester by mixing an amphiphilic amine with the ester.
