Claims
- 1. A method for inhibiting β-amyloid peptide release and/or its synthesis in a cell which method comprises administering to such a cell an amount of a compound or a mixture of compounds effective in inhibiting the cellular release and/or synthesis of β-amyloid peptide wherein said compounds are represented by formula I:
- 2. A method for preventing the onset of Alzheimer's disease in a human patient at risk for developing Alzheimer's disease which method comprises administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically inert carrier and an effective amount of a compound or a mixture of compounds of formula I:

A method for treating a human patient with Alzheimer's disease in order to inhibit further deterioration in the condition of that patient which method comprises administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically inert carrier and an effective amount of a compound or a mixture of compounds of formula I:
- 4. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein n is 1.
- 5. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein rings A and B are preferably independently selected from the group consisting of aryl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroaryl and heterocyclic.
- 6. The method according to claim 5 wherein rings A and B are independently aryl.
- 7. - 8. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein each R2 is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl and heterocyclic.

- 10. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein R3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl and cycloalkyl.
- 11. The method according to claim 10 wherein R3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, 2-methypropyl, hexyl, methoxycarbonylmethyl, 3,3-dimethyl-2-oxobutyl, 4-phenylbutyl, cyclopropylmethyl, 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl, and cyclohexyl.
- 12. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein R4 is hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl.
- 13. The method according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3 wherein R5 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, substituted alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, cycloalkyl, heteroaryl and heterocyclic.
