Claims
- 1. A system for examination of a substance which emits light at a wavelength greater than a wavelength of light emitted from the light source when the substance is excited by the wavelength of light emitted from the light source, the light source comprising:
a light source comprising:
a housing having a light outlet; and a low voltage lamp oriented to emit light through the light outlet, the light source emitting an excitation wavelengths of light; and a filter lens through which emission of light from a substance when the substance is excited by excitation wavelength of light, the filter lens including a primary filter and a trim filter through which the emission wavelength can be detected and the excitation wavelengths of light is substantially blocked.
- 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the trim filter substantially blocks transmission of wavelengths that compete with detection of the emission wavelength from the dye.
- 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the trim filter substantially blocks a set of wavelengths different from the wavelengths blocked by the primary filter.
- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the light source emits light of wavelengths up to 700 nm.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the primary filter substantially blocks light in the range of 720 to 850 nm.
- 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the trim filter substantially blocks light from 650 to 850 nm.
- 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the primary filter includes a rose colored dye.
- 8. The system of claim 7, wherein the trim filter includes a blue colored dye.
- 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the low voltage lamp includes a light emitting diode.
- 10. The system of claim 1, wherein the lamp is powered by a battery.
- 11. The system of claim 1, wherein the filter lens is a portion of eyewear.
- 12. A method of testing a system containing a substance capable of emitting an emission wavelength of light after being excited by an excitation wavelength of light, the method comprising:
providing an excitation wavelength of light from a light source to a test site; and detecting transmission of light through a filter lens including a primary filter and a trim filter through which the emission wavelength can be detected and the excitation wavelengths of light is substantially blocked.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the trim filter substantially blocks transmission of wavelengths that compete with detection of the emission wavelength from the dye.
- 14. The method of claim 12, wherein the trim filter blocks a set of wavelengths different from the wavelengths blocked by the primary filter.
- 15. The method of claim 12, wherein the light source emits light of wavelengths up to 700 nm.
- 16. The method of claim 12, wherein the primary filter blocks light in the range of 720 to 850 nm.
- 17. The method of claim 12, wherein the trim filter blocks light from 650 to 850 nm.
- 18. The method of claim 12, wherein the primary filter includes a rose colored dye.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the trim filter includes a blue colored dye.
- 20. The method of claim 12, wherein the low voltage lamp includes a light emitting diode.
