Claims
- 1. Apparatus for initializing the lens of a camera having a power source, means for selectively transmitting power from said power source to the lens in accordance with a state of said transmitting means, said apparatus comprising positioning means, operated upon reintroduction of said power source, for positioning said lens at a predetermined reference position regardless of the state of said transmitting means, said positioning means comprising means for driving said lens in a direction towards said predetermined reference position.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said lens comprises a zoom lens.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said driving means drives said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position whenever power is reintroduced to said power source.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said predetermined reference position comprises an accommodated position of said zoom lens.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said driving means comprises means for driving said zoom lens in at least two driving speeds, said at least two driving speeds including a higher speed and a lower speed, said driving means driving said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position at said higher speed when said power has been reintroduced to said power source.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the speed at which said driving means drives said zoom lens toward said predetermined reference position is a highest speed of said at least two driving speeds.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 2, further comprising:
- means, active when said driving means is driving said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position, for continuously receiving updated input code values indicative of the relative position of said lens with respect to a body portion of said camera;
- means for determining whether each of said updated input code values is equal to a code value that represents said predetermined reference position; and
- means for stopping the driving of said lens when it is determined that one of said updated input code values is equal to the code value that represents said predetermined reference position.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 7, further comprising:
- means for receiving an initial input code value which represents the relative position of said lens with respect to said body portion of said camera;
- means for comparing the initial input code value with a code value that represents said predetermined reference position; and
- drive control means for controlling activation of said driving means based upon a result of the comparison made by said comparing means.
- 9. The apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said drive control means comprises:
- means for activating said driving means to drive said lens for a predetermined amount of time in a direction away from said predetermined reference position, and to thereafter drive said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position, when said initial input code value is equal to the code value that represents said predetermined reference position; and
- means for activating said driving means to drive said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position when said initial input code value is not equal to the code value that represents said predetermined reference position.
- 10. The apparatus according to claim 7, further comprising means for placing a reference value within a memory, said reference value representing that said lens is at said predetermined reference position.
- 11. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus comprises said camera, and wherein said camera comprises a lens shutter camera.
- 12. The apparatus according to claim 1, said power source comprising a removable battery, reintroduction of said power source comprising reinstallation of said battery into said camera.
- 13. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein prior to reintroduction of said power source, lens position data is lost due to an absence of said power source.
- 14. The apparatus according to claim 1, said transmitting means comprising a power switch.
- 15. The apparatus according to claim 14, said positioning means being operative for positioning said lens at a further position in accordance with a state of said power switch, after positioning said lens at the predetermined reference position.
- 16. The apparatus according to claim 1, said positioning means being operative, when said lens is positioned at said predetermined reference position upon reintroduction of said power source, for moving said lens from said predetermined reference position to another position and then moving said lens to said predetermined reference position.
- 17. A camera comprising a zoom lens and a camera body, said zoom lens being movable with respect to said camera body in accordance with movement of a movable member, said camera comprising:
- a plate member having conductive and non-conductive portions, said plate member being provided on either one of said camera body and said movable member;
- a contact member provided on the other one of said camera body and said movable member, for slidably contacting said plate member, to detect a state of conductivity of said plate member, said contact member being located at a predetermined position corresponding to a predetermined positional relationship between said zoom lens and said camera body;
- means for generating position code data indicative of the relative position of said zoom lens with respect to said camera body, as a function of the detected state of conductivity of said plate member by said contact member; and
- means, operated upon reinitiation of power to a power source portion of said camera, after said position code data indicative of a relative position of said zoom lens is lost, for positioning said zoom lens at a predetermined reference position, said positioning means comprising means for driving said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position.
- 18. The camera according to claim 17, wherein said driving means drives said zoom lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position whenever power is reinitiated to said power source portion.
- 19. The camera according to claim 17, wherein said predetermined reference position comprises an accommodated position of said zoom lens.
- 20. The camera according to claim 17, wherein said driving means comprises means for driving said zoom lens in at least two driving speeds, said at least two driving speeds including a higher speed and a lower speed, said driving means driving said lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position at said higher speed when said power has been reinitiated to said power source portion.
- 21. The camera according to claim 20, wherein the speed at which said driving means drives said zoom lens toward said predetermined reference position is a highest speed of said at least two driving speeds.
- 22. The camera according to claim 17, further comprising:
- means, active when said driving means is driving said zoom lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position, for continuously receiving updated position code data values indicative of the relative position of said zoom lens with respect to said camera body;
- means for determining whether each of said updated position code data values is equal to a code data value that represents said predetermined reference position;
- means for stopping the driving of said zoom lens when it is determined that one of said updated position code data values is equal to the code data value that represents said predetermined reference position.
- 23. The camera according to claim 22, further comprising:
- means for comparing an initially obtained position code data value with a code data value that represents said predetermined reference position; and
- drive control means for controlling activation of said driving means based upon a result of the comparison made by said comparing means.
- 24. The camera according to claim 23, wherein said drive control means comprises:
- means for activating said driving means to drive said zoom lens for a predetermined amount of time in a direction away from said predetermined reference position, and to thereafter drive said zoom lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position, when said initially obtained position code data value is equal to the code data value that represents said predetermined reference position; and
- means for activating said driving means to drive said zoom lens in a direction toward said predetermined reference position when said initially obtained position code data value is not equal to the code data value that represents said predetermined reference position.
- 25. The camera according to claim 22, further comprising means for placing a reference value within a memory, said reference value representing that said zoom lens is at said predetermined reference position.
- 26. The camera according to claim 17, wherein said camera comprises a lens shutter camera.
- 27. The camera according to claim 17, said power source portion comprising a removable battery, said reinitiation of power comprising reinstallation of said battery to said camera.
- 28. The camera according to claim 17, said positioning means being operative for positioning said zoom lens at a further position, after positioning said zoom lens at said predetermined reference position, in accordance with a position of a power switch.
- 29. The camera according to claim 17, said positioning means being operative, when said zoom lens is positioned at said predetermined reference position upon reinitiation of power to said power source portion of said camera, for moving said zoom lens from said predetermined reference position to another position and then moving said zoom lens to said predetermined reference position.
- 30. The camera according to claim 17, said conductive and nonconductive portions providing a code pattern defining a relative code.
