Claims
- 1. A method for processing communication signals in a wireless telecommunication system having at least two subscriber units wherein the subscriber units communicate with each other through a selected band of radio frequencies over a plurality of radio frequency channels, the method comprising:generating a fixed base radio frequency signal; generating a digital intermediate frequency signal at a selected intermediate frequency out of intermediate frequencies; carrying information with said digital intermediate frequency signal as a modulated intermediate frequency signal; converting said modulated digital intermediate frequency signal to a modulated carrier signal using said fixed base radio frequency signal at a selected radio frequency channel out of said plurality of radio frequency channels; and communicating said modulated carrier signal between said at least two subscribers.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:transcoding the information by a first subscriber unit into digital input symbols; and data modulating the digital intermediate frequency signal with the digital input symbols to produce the modulated digital intermediate frequency signal.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 further comprising demodulating a communication signal received from a second subscriber unit using the digital intermediate frequency signal.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 further comprising filtering the digital intermediate frequency signal via a noise shaping circuit prior to demodulating the second communication signal which is received from said second subscriber unit.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 further comprising generating the digital intermediate frequency signal based on predefined values stored in a memory-based device.
- 6. A method according to claim 5 further comprising generating the digital intermediate frequency signal based on digitized phase values by using predefined sine and cosine waveform values stored in the memory-based device.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 further comprising generating the digital intermediate frequency signal using coarse and fine resolution frequency approximations stored in the memory-based device.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 further comprising using two lookup tables in the memory-based device.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 further comprising reducing the table sizes by utilizing quadrant symmetry of the sine and cosine waveform values.
- 10. A method according to claim 9 further comprising utilizing trigonometric decomposition to reduce the table sizes.
