Claims
- 1. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan line driver IC provided on tape substrate means for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information line driver IC, provided on said tape substrate means, that generates an information signal to drive said display device; bus board means for supplying voltage signals to said scan line driver IC and said information line driver IC; a plurality of scan line input leads and a plurality of information line input leads arranged on said tape substrate means and connected between said bus board means and a respective one of said driver ICs; a plurality of scan line output leads and a plurality of information line output leads arranged on said tape substrate means and connected between a respective one of said driver ICs and said display device; a plurality of dummy leads which are electrically not related to driving of an image display, comprising: a scan line dummy input lead and an information line dummy input lead each connected between said bus board means and said tape substrate means and positioned between an edge of said tape substrate means and a respective one of said scan line input leads and said information line input leads; and a scan line dummy output lead and an information line dummy output lead each electrically connected to a respective one of said scan line dummy input lead and said information line dummy input lead and positioned between an edge of said tape substrate means and a respective one of said scan line output leads and said information line output leads, where said dummy leads are electrically isolated from said driver ICs; and wherein said bus board is arranged to supply a first predetermined voltage waveform to said scan line dummy leads and a second predetermined voltage to said information line dummy lead; the first predetermined voltage waveform is the non-selection signal, so that the voltage difference between the scan line dummy leads and the nearest scan line output lead, averaged over a predetermined time period, is zero or nearly zero; and the second predetermined voltage waveform is the time-averaged value of the voltage waveform on the information line output lead nearest the information line dummy leads, so that the voltage difference between said information line dummy leads and said nearest information line output lead, averaged over a predetermined time period, is zero or nearly zero.
- 2. A display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said tape substrate means comprises a plurality of film carriers assigned to one of a pair of bus boards.
- 3. A display apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the predetermined time period is one frame period.
- 4. A display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said display device is selected from the group consisting of a liquid crystal display device, a plasma display device, an electro-chromic display device and electron emitting device.
- 5. A display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the predetermined time period is longer than one horizontal scan period.
- 6. A display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said dummy leads are connected to a border driving area of the display device.
- 7. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; film carrier means including input leads, output leads, a scan side dummy lead, and an information side dummy lead, the input leads and the output leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein each of said scan side dummy lead and said information side dummy lead is arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said film carrier means and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said film carrier means, said scan side dummy lead is not connected to said scan side driver IC and a voltage substantially equal to the potential of the scan non-selection signal is applied to said scan side dummy lead during a period when the scan side driver IC is driven, so that during the period when the scan side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the scan selection signal and scan non-selection signal are being applied and the scan side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output and the display device, said information side driver IC generates the information signal, which is a bipolar signal with respect to a center potential, during a period when the information side driver IC is driven, and said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and a voltage substantially equal to the center potential of the information signal is applied to said information side dummy lead during the period when the information side drive IC is driven, so that during the period when the information side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the bipolar signal with respect to the center potential is being applied and the information side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 8. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side drive IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads, the input leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein said scan side film carrier has a scan side dummy lead, the scan side dummy lead being arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said scan side film carrier, and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said scan side film carrier, and said scan side dummy lead is not connected to said scan side driver IC and a voltage substantially equal to the potential of the scan non-selection signal is applied to said scan dummy lead during a period when the scan side driver IC is driven, so that during the period when the scan side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the scan selection signal and scan non-selection signal is being applied and the scan side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 9. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads, the input leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein said information side film carrier has an information side dummy lead, the information side dummy lead being arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said information side film carrier, and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said information side film carrier, said information side driver IC generates the information signal, which is a bipolar signal with respect to a center potential, during a period when the information side driver IC is driven, and said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and a voltage substantially equal to the center potential of the information signal is applied to said information side dummy lead during the period when the information side driver IC is driven, so that during the period when the information side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the bipolar signal with respect to the center potential is being applied and the information side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 10. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; film carrier means provided with input leads, output leads, a scan side dummy lead and an information side dummy lead, the input leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein each of said scan side dummy lead and said information side dummy lead is arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said film carrier means, and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said film carrier means, said scan side dummy lead is not connected to said scan side driver IC and a selected voltage is applied to said scan side dummy lead, so that during a period when the scan side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the scan selection signal and scan non-selection signal is being applied and the scan side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device, said information side driver IC generates the information signal, which is a bipolar signal with respect to a center potential, during a period when the information side driver IC is driven, and said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and a selected voltage is applied to said information side dummy lead, so that during the period when the information side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the bipolar signal with respect to the center potential is being applied and the information side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 11. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads, the input leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein said scan side film carrier has a scan side dummy lead and information side dummy lead, each of the dummy leads being arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said scan side film carrier, and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said scan side film carrier; and said scan side dummy lead is not connected to said scan side driver IC and a selected voltage is applied to said scan side dummy lead, so that during a period when the scan side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the scan selection signal and scan non-selection signal are being applied and the scan side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 12. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal to drive said display device; a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads, the input leads being arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC; and bus board means for supplying signals to the input leads, wherein said information side film carrier has an information side dummy lead arranged at a position between the most outside one of the input leads and an edge of said information side film carrier and at a position between the most outside one of the output leads and the edge of said information side film carrier, said information side driver IC generates the information signal, which is a bipolar signal with respect to a center potential, during a period when the information side driver IC is driven, and said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and a selected voltage is applied to said information side dummy lead, so that during the period when the information side driver IC is driven, a voltage difference between the output lead to which the bipolar signal with respect to the center potential is being applied and the information side dummy lead is sufficiently small to suppress a wire breaking due to electrolytic corrosion at a connection portion of the output lead and the display device.
- 13. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal which is a bipolar signal with respect to a central potential; and a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC, wherein said information side film carrier has an information side dummy lead positioned between an edge of the information side film carrier and the most outside one of the output leads and the most outside one of the input leads, and said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and has an applied voltage wave form which is synchronous with at least one horizontal scan interval during a vertical scan period during which said information side driver IC is driven and has a waveform in-phase with the information signal waveform.
- 14. A display apparatus comprising:a display device; a scan side driver IC for generating a scan selection signal and a scan non-selection signal to drive said display device; an information side driver IC for generating an information signal which is a bipolar signal with respect to a central potential; and a scan side film carrier and information side film carrier provided with input leads and output leads arranged for connection to said scan side driver IC and information side driver IC, wherein said information side film carrier and scan side film carrier have respective information side dummy leads and scan side dummy leads, the information side dummy lead being positioned between an edge of the information side film carrier and the most outside one of the output leads and the most outside one of the input leads on the information side film carrier, and the scan side dummy leads being positioned between an edge of the scan side film carrier and the most outside one of the output leads and the most outside one of the input leads on the scan side film carrier, said information side dummy lead is not connected to said information side driver IC and has an applied voltage waveform which is in synchronization with at least one horizontal scan interval during a vertical scan period during which said information side driver IC is driven and has a waveform in-phase with the information signal waveform, and said scan side dummy lead is not connected to said driver IC and has an applied DC voltage during one vertical scan period during which said scan side driver IC is driven.
