Claims
- 1. A purified polypeptide comprising a unique amino acid region of SEQ. ID. NO. 1 that is at least 9 contiguous amino acids in length, wherein said unique region is not present in SEQ. ID. NO. 2 or SEQ. ID. NO. 3.
- 2. The polypeptide of claim 1, wherein said unique region comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
SEQ. ID. NO. 7 LEASLLPPGP, SEQ. ID. NO. 8 SEGPDNLTSAGP, SEQ. ID. NO. 9 RRTGNVSYIN, SEQ. ID. NO. 10 PFPGGTVGCG, and SEQ. ID. NO. 11 QRMMSSVA.
- 3. The polypeptide of claim 1, wherein said polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1.
- 4. The polypeptide of claim 3, wherein said polypeptide consists of the amino acid sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1.
- 5. A purified nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding for the polypeptide of any one of claims 1-4.
- 6. A purified nucleic acid comprising a unique nucleotide sequence region of SEQ. ID. NO. 4, or the complement thereof, that is at least 18 contiguous nucleotides in length, wherein said unique region is not present in SEQ. ID. NO. 5, SEQ. ID. NO. 6, or the complement of SEQ. ID. NO. 5 or SEQ. ID. NO. 6.
- 7. The purified nucleic acid of claim 6, wherein said unique region comprises a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of:
SEQ. ID. NO. 12 CCTCGGAGGGCCCGGACAACC, SEQ. ID. NO. 13 ACCTCTGCCGGGCCACCTCGT, SEQ. ID. NO. 14 GCCCTTCGTGGTCATCACAGCCGCGTAT, SEQ. ID. NO. 15 TGTCCTCGGTAGCCCCTGCCTCTCAA, and SEQ. ID. NO. 16 TTCGAGCCGTCAGCAATGCT.
- 8. The purified nucleic acid of claim 6, wherein said nucleic acid comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 3.
- 9. The purified nucleic acid of claim 8, wherein said nucleic acid consists of the nucleotide sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 3.
- 10. A nucleic acid comprising a recombinant nucleotide sequence encoding for a polypeptide comprising a unique amino acid region of SEQ. ID. NO. 1 that is at least 9 contiguous amino acids in length, wherein said unique region is not present in SEQ. ID. NO. 2 or SEQ. ID. NO. 3.
- 11. The nucleic acid of claim 10, wherein said unique region comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
SEQ. ID. NO. 7 LEASLLPPGP, SEQ. ID. NO. 8 SEGPDNLTSAGP, SEQ. ID. NO. 9 RRTGNVSYIN, SEQ. ID. NO. 10 PFPGGTVGCG, and SEQ. ID. NO. 11 ILQRMMSSVA.
- 12. The nucleic acid claim 10, wherein said unique amino acid region comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1.
- 13. The nucleic acid of claim 10, wherein unique amino acid region consists of the amino acid sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1.
- 14. The nucleic acid of any one of claims 10-13, wherein said nucleic acid is an expression vector.
- 15. A recombinant cell comprising the expression vector of claim 14.
- 16. A recombinant cell made by a process comprising the step of introducing into said cell the expression vector of claim 14.
- 17. A method of measuring the ability of a test compound to affect MCH receptor activity comprising the steps of:
a) contacting a recombinant cell with said compound, wherein said recombinant cell comprises a recombinant nucleic acid expressing a functional MCH receptor that comprises a unique amino acid region of SEQ. ID. NO. 1 that is at least 9 contiguous amino acids in length, provided that said unique region is not present in SEQ. ID. NO. 2 or 3; and b) measuring MCH receptor activity.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein said MCH receptor consists of the sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein said contacting further comprises the use of a MCH agonist to stimulate MCH receptor activity, and measuring the ability of said compound to modulate MCH receptor activity.
- 20. A method of preparing a MCH receptor polypeptide comprising the step of growing the recombinant cell of claim 14 under conditions wherein said polypeptide is expressed from said expression vector.
