Claims
- 1. A multiple capacity dispenser for dispersible materials, said dispenser comprising the combination of:a) at least one active dispenser for an actively dispersible material, said active dispenser comprising a reservoir containing said actively dispersible material, and means to actively dispense said actively dispersible material from said reservoir to the atmosphere; b) at least one passive dispenser for a volatile dispersible material, said passive dispenser comprising a reservoir containing said volatile dispersible material, and means to control volatilization of said volatile dispersible material; and c) means to combine said passive dispenser and said active dispenser into a multiple function dispenser.
- 2. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein said dispersible materials are selected from the group consisting of fragrances, air fresheners, deodorizers, odor eliminators, malodor counteractants, insecticides, insect repellants, medicinal substances, disinfectants, sanitizers, mood enhancers, and aroma therapy compositions.
- 3. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 2, wherein said actively dispersible material differs from said volatile dispersible material.
- 4. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 2, wherein said actively dispersible material and said volatile dispersible material are the same.
- 5. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 2, wherein said active dispenser and said passive dispenser are independently replaceable.
- 6. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 1, wherein the means to combine said passive dispenser and said active dispenser into a multiple function dispenser comprises the external shell of said dispenser, and said shell comprises a passive dispenser.
- 7. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 6, wherein said passive dispenser comprises a material selected from the group consisting of molded plastics, ceramics, and paper, said material being impregnated with said volatile dispersible material.
- 8. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 7, wherein said passive dispenser comprises a molded plastic.
- 9. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 7, wherein said passive dispenser comprises ceramic.
- 10. A multiple function dispenser, said dispenser comprising at least one spray dispenser having a first reservoir for a spray dispersible material and means to dispense said spray dispersible material to the atmosphere, a gel cartridge dispenser comprising a second reservoir for a volatile passively dispersible material and means to control vaporization of said volatile passively dispersible material, and means to join said spray dispenser and said gel cartridge dispenser.
- 11. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 10, wherein said means to join said spray dispenser and said gel cartridge dispenser comprises an external shell.
- 12. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 11, wherein said external shell comprises a material selected from the group consisting of molded plastics, ceramics, and paper.
- 13. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 12, wherein said material is impregnated with a volatile dispersible material.
- 14. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said external shell comprises a molded plastic.
- 15. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 13, wherein said external shell comprises ceramic.
- 16. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 11, wherein said spray dispenser and said gel cartridge dispenser each independently dispense a dispersible selected from the group consisting of fragrances, air fresheners, deodorizers, odor eliminators, malodor counteractants, insecticides, insect repellants, medicinal substances, disinfectants, sanitizers, mood enhancers, and aroma therapy compositions.
- 17. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 16, wherein said gel cartridge comprises a vapor permeable membrane to permit vaporization of said volatile dispersible material.
- 18. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 17, further comprising means to enhance the vaporization of said volatile dispersible material.
- 19. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 18, wherein said enhancement means comprises a fan.
- 20. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 18, wherein said enhancement means comprises means to heat said volatile dispersible material.
- 21. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 16, wherein said shell comprises a passage for said spray dispersible material to reach the atmosphere, and openings for said volatile dispersible material reach the atmosphere.
- 22. A multiple function dispenser as set forth in claim 21, wherein said openings comprise an area corresponding to from about 40 to about 60 percent of the surface area of said vapor permeable membrane.
- 23. A dispensing package for dispensing dispersible materials, said package comprising an outer shell, and a dispensing unit which fits within said outer shell, said dispensing unit comprising an actively dispersible material and means for dispensing said actively dispersible material, said outer shell comprising a passive dispenser containing a volatile passively dispersible material, said outer shell being adapted to receive and cooperatively engage said dispensing unit.
- 24. A dispensing package as set forth in claim 23, wherein said actively dispersible material and said passively dispersible material may be dispersed independently of each other.
- 25. A dispensing package as set forth in claim 24, wherein said actively dispersible material and said passively dispersible material are selected from the group consisting of fragrances, air fresheners, deodorizers, odor eliminators, malodor counteractants, insecticides, insect repellants, medicinal substances, disinfectants, sanitizers, mood enhancers, and aroma therapy compositions.
- 26. A dispensing package as set forth in claim 25, wherein said dispensing unit is replaceable.
- 27. A dispensing package as set forth in claim 26, wherein said dispensing unit comprises at least one spray can, valve, stem and nozzle assembly.
- 28. A multiple capacity dispenser for dispersible materials, said dispenser comprising the combination ofa) at least one active dispenser for an actively dispersible material, said active dispenser comprising a reservoir containing said actively dispersible material, and means to actively dispense said actively dispersible material from said reservoir to the atmosphere; b) at least one passive dispenser for a volatile dispersible material, said passive dispenser comprising a reservoir containing said volatile dispersible material, and means to control the degree of exposure of said volatile dispersible material to the atmosphere; and c) a shell encompassing said active dispenser and said passive dispenser, said shell having openings therein to permit exposure of said volatile dispersible material to the atmosphere.
- 29. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 28, wherein said dispersible materials are individually selected from the group consisting of fragrances, air fresheners, deodorizers, odor eliminators, malodor counteractants, insecticides, insect repellants, medicinal substances, disinfectants, sanitizers, mood enhancers, and aroma therapy compositions.
- 30. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 28, wherein said means to control the exposure of said volatile dispersible material further comprises adjustment means.
- 31. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 30, further comprising means to enhance the vaporization of said volatile dispersible material.
- 32. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 31, wherein said enhancement means comprises a fan.
- 33. A multiple capacity dispenser as set forth in claim 31, wherein said enhancement means comprises means to heat said volatile dispersible material.
- 34. A refill unit for a multiple capacity dispenser of dispersible materials, said refill unit comprising a reservoir containing an actively dispersible material, said refill unit being adapted to cooperatively engage an external passive dispenser of a passively dispersible volatile material.
- 35. A refill unit as set forth in claim 34, wherein said actively dispersible material is selected from the group consisting of fragrances, air fresheners, deodorizers, odor eliminators, malodor counteractants, insecticides, insect repellants, medicinal substances, disinfectants, sanitizers, mood enhancers, and aroma therapy compositions.
- 36. A refill unit as set forth in claim 35, wherein said actively dispersible material and said passively dispersible volatile material are the same.
- 37. A refill unit as set forth in claim 35, wherein said actively dispersible material and said passively dispersible volatile material differ.
