Claims
- 1. Dye donor element comprising on a support a dye layer, said dye layer comprising a binder and a dye according to formula (I): ##STR76## wherein: R.sup.1 represents NR.sup.4 R.sup.5, OR.sup.6 or SR.sup.6,
- R.sup.2 represents hydrogen cyano COR.sup.7, CO.sub.2 R.sup.7, CONR.sup.8 R.sup.9, SO.sub.2 R.sup.10,
- Y represents any substituent,
- n represents 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, said Y substituents being the same or different when n is greater than 1 or said Y substituents can form an annelated ring system;
- R.sup.3 is The residue of a heterocyclic amine R.sup.3 --NH.sub.2,
- R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 each independently represent hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic ring or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 together represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered ring or R.sup.4 and/or R.sup.5 together with one of the Y-substituents represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered, fused-on heterocyclic ring system or R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 together represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered ring or R.sup.7 or R.sup.8 or R.sup.9 or R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 together with one of the Y-substituents represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered, fused-on heterocyclic ring system,
- R.sup.10 represents hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, NR.sup.11 R.sup.12, aryl or alkyl or R.sup.10 together with one of the Y-substituents represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered, fused-on heterocyclic ring system,
- R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 each independently represent hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic ring or R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 together represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered ring.
- 2. A dye donor element according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following formula (III): ##STR77## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, Y and n have the same meaning as defined in general formula (I) of claim 1,
- R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 each independently represent hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, thioalkyl, thioaryl, halogen, amino, NO.sub.2, CN, acyloxy, acylamino, sulfonamido, sulfonylamino, a heterocyclic group, POR.sup.15 R.sup.16, a sulfonyl group or R.sup.17 --C.dbd.A;
- R.sup.15 and R.sup.16 each independently represent alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkyloxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, amine or a heterocyclic group or R.sup.15 and R.sup.16 together represent the necessary atoms to form a 5- or 6-membered ring;
- R.sup.17 represents hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, an aryloxy group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an amine group, an electron withdrawing group or R.sup.17 together with R.sup.19, R.sup.20 or R.sup.18 represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system:
- A represents O, N--R.sup.18, CR.sup.19 R.sup.20 ;
- R.sup.18 represents H, CN, NR.sup.21 R.sup.22, OR.sup.21, OCOR.sup.21, OCO.sub.2 R.sup.21, OCONR.sup.21 R.sup.22, OSO.sub.2 R.sup.21, OP(O)(OR.sup.21)(OR.sup.22), alkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic ring;
- R.sup.19 and R.sup.20 independently represent a heterocyclic ring of an electron withdrawing group or R.sup.19 and R.sup.20 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system;
- R.sup.21 and R.sup.22 independently represent hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic ring or R.sup.21 and R.sup.22 together represent the atoms necessary for completing a heterocyclic ring.
- 3. A dye donor element according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following formula (IV): ##STR78## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, Y and n have the same meaning as defined in formula (I) of claim 1:
- R.sup.23 represents hydrogen, cyan or an electron withdrawing group;
- R.sup.24 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy, alkyl, aryl, amino, acylamido, CN, alkylthio, a carbocylic ester, a carboxylic amide, a sulfonate, a sulfonamide, a heterocyclic group, an aryloxy, acyloxy, arylthio, an imino group;
- R.sup.25 represents hydrogen, CN, alkyl, aryl, halogen, NO.sub.2, a sulfonyl group, a sulfonate group, a sulfonamido group or R.sup.17 --C.dbd.A wherein R.sup.17 and A have the same meaning as defined in formula (III) of claim 2, or R.sup.24 and R.sup.25 or R.sup.24 and R.sup.23 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system.
- 4. A dye donor element according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following general formula (V): ##STR79## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, Y and n have the same meaning as defined in formula (I) of claim 1;
- R.sup.26 and R.sup.27 each independently represent hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, thioalkyl, thioaryl, halogen, amino, NO.sub.2, CN, acyloxy, acylamino, sulfonamido, sulfonylamino, a heterocyclic group, POR.sup.15 R.sup.16, a sulfonyl group or R.sup.17 --C.dbd.A,
- R.sup.15, R.sup.16, R.sup.17 and A have the same meaning as defined in formula (III) of claim 2;
- R.sup.28 represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, acyl or sulfonyl;
- R.sup.27 and R.sup.28, or R.sup.26 and R.sup.27 together represent the necessary atoms for completing a ring system.
- 5. A dye donor element according to claim 1 wherein said dye corresponds to the following general formula (VI): ##STR80## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, Y and n have the same meaning as defined in formula (I) of claim 1:
- R.sup.29 represents any substituent.
