Claims
- 1. An information storage medium comprising:a plurality of information layers, each of the plurality of information layers having information stored therein as an electroluminescent dye; and for each of the plurality of information layers, a pair of transparent electrode layers, one on either side of the information layer, for selectively applying a voltage to the electroluminescent dye for reproduction of the information, wherein: each of the plurality of information layers has at least one groove; and in each groove of each of the plurality of information layers, the electroluminescent dye is disposed as an active layer comprising: an electroluminescent material; a fluorescent quencher for the electroluminescent material; and a free radical generating compound that, when thermally degraded, generates free radicals that react with the quencher to bleach the quencher.
- 2. The information storage medium of claim 1, further comprising, on one side of the plurality of information layers, a photoconductive layer and an electroluminescent layer.
- 3. The information storage medium of claim 1, wherein each groove is spiral.
- 4. The information storage medium of claim 1, wherein the electroluminescent material comprises poly(p-phenyl vinylene).
- 5. The information storage medium of claim 4, wherein the quencher comprises a compound selected from the group consisting of 3,3′-diethyloxadiccarbocyanine iodide, 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran and 1,1′-diethel-2,2′-carbocyanine iodide.
- 6. The information storage medium of claim 5, wherein the free radical generating compound comprises azodiizobutyronitryle.
