Claims
- 1. An electrophotographic imaging process which comprises
- (a) providing an overcoated photoreceptor, said photoreceptor comprising an adhesive generating layer comprising a generating pigment dispersed in a copolymer of a siloxane and a dihydroxy compound having the formula: ##STR5## wherein R and R' are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenes, substituted alkenes, aryl and substituted aryl; Y is a dihydroxy radical; and n is a number of sufficient value that the average molecular weight of the resulting silicone copolymer is between about 2,000 and about 250,000;
- (b) charging the photoreceptor with negative electrostatic charges;
- (c) and charging the photoreceptor a second time with electrostatic charges of positive polarity in order to substantially neutralize the negative charge residing on the surface of the photoreceptor; and
- (d) exposing the photoreceptor to an imagewise pattern of electromagnetic radiation thereby forming an electrostatic latent image.
- 2. The process of claim 1 further including contacting the surface of the photoreceptor with electroscopic marking materials to develop said latent image.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein R and R' are alkyl radicals containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms, alkene radicals containing 2 to 24 carbon atoms or aryl radicals containing 6 to 24 carbon atoms.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein said alkyl radicals are methyl and said aryl radical is phenyl.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said dihydroxy radical Y is ethylene glycol or a biphenol.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein said biphenol is 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxy phenyl)-propane.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein n is a number from about 5 to about 1,000.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein the silicon copolymer is methyl octyl siloxane 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxy phenyl)-propane.
- 9. The process of claim 20 wherein said generating pigment is selected from the group consisting of a metal phthalocyanine, a metal-free phthalocyanine, selenium, a selenium-containing compound and mixtures thereof.
- 10. The process of claim 9 wherein said metal-free phthalocyanine is X form metal-free phthalocyanine.
- 11. The process of claim 9 wherein said metal phthalocyanine is vanadyl phthalocyanine.
- 12. The process of claim 9 wherein said generating pigment is amorphous selenium.
- 13. The process of claim 9 wherein said generating pigment is trigonal selenium.
- 14. The process of claim 1 wherein said generating pigment is a selenium alloy.
- 15. The process of claim 1 wherein the silicon copolymer has the formula: ##STR6## wherein n is a number of from about 5 to about 1,000.
- 16. The process of claim 1 wherein said overcoated photoreceptor comprises an electrically conductive substrate overcoated with a layer capable of injecting holes into a layer on its surface, said layer being comprised of carbon black or graphite dispersed in a polymer, a hole transport layer in operative contact with the layer of hole injecting material, overcoated with a layer of charge generating material containing a generating pigment dispersed in a copolymer of a siloxane and a dihydroxy compound, said layer being in operative contact with the charge transport layer, and a top layer of an insulating organic resin overlying the layer of charge generating material, whereby the charge generating material provided permanent adhesion of the generating layer to the insulating overcoating layer.
